My favorite Netflix fantasy show has been renewed for season 2.

My favorite Netflix fantasy show has been renewed for season 2.

I certainly wouldn't call myself an animation veteran, but I can say with confidence that "Delicious in the Dungeon" definitely deserves a spot on Tom's Guide's list of Best Netflix Animated Series. This bizarre fantasy-comedy-slash-cookery has consistently kept me on my toes since it first aired on Netflix in January 2024.

The show is an adaptation of the recently completed manga written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui and follows a group of adventurers as they plunge into the depths of a labyrinth-like dungeon. With little cash on hand, their leader, Laois, becomes obsessed with the monstrous plants and animals that inhabit them in order to find sustenance.

This series is more playful than those sagas. While the story is still full of dangers (and it goes to some unexpected places), Studio Trigger has successfully brought Qui's world to life. Throughout season one, they've created a lively ecological web, featuring all sorts of fantastic creatures, and the crew confronts them in thrilling, action-packed sequences.

In my eyes, the core cast is the biggest draw. This group is not made up of brooding knights, but rather the kind of goofballs you would find in your average tabletop role-playing session. Each character is full of personality, and it is a genuine pleasure to watch them bump into each other and grow as a group over the course of the series.

So it's no wonder I was excited when I saw that Studio Trigger announced that they had begun production on a second season on June 13, the same day the season one finale was released on Netflix.

Excitingly, the trailer for "Delicious in Dungeon" Season 2 is already online.

If you have not yet seen the "Delicious in Dungeon" series and would like to know what's coming next, you can find more information about the series and what others have to say about it below.

If you have not yet checked out the "Delicious in the Dungeon" series, the story revolves primarily around four adventurers: a trained magician, Marcil, a half-legged locksmith, Chilchuck, their leader, Laois, and early in their journey Sensi, a gourmet dwarven warrior who joins them.

Laois, Marsil, and Chilchuck had joined an earlier expedition that was interrupted by an encounter with the fearsome Red Dragon. The trio managed to escape with their lives, but they still only had the equipment on their backs. Fortunately, Laois has a plan to fuel their perilous journey. He's always wanted to know what the monsters in the dungeon taste like, and this is the perfect opportunity to sample what might be on the menu (much to his party's chagrin).

A ridiculous "ticking clock" is provided: the first major objective of the party is to get down to the level where the Red Dragon is still inhabited. Why? That dragon has swallowed one of their previous party members, and the Laois want to make the rescue before the dragon has fully digested Laois' sister, Falyn.

Throughout the season, the story takes surprising turns that are almost unpredictable. Let's get a taste of what's to come. Embed the official teaser trailer "Delicious in Dungeon" below:

If you like any combination of anime, cooking shows, or fantasy creatures, you should 100% add "Meet Me in the Dungeon" to your streaming subscription. I've already raved about the series in my intro, and it's all warranted.

"Meet Me in the Dungeon" is an engrossing mix of fighting monsters and relaxing around the campfire with a good meal. It is light on footwork and weaves a unique tale that is packed with laughs but also has serious twists and turns. It's a visual treat, really well put together, and I can't wait to see where this story goes next.

I'm not the only one in love with "Delicious in Dungeon"; RottenTomatoes currently has a 100% perfect critic score for the first season, but that's from just a handful of registered reviews.

The first six episodes of "Delicious in Dungeon" received an 8/10 from IGN, with writer Kambole Campbell calling the show "unmissable reserved viewing" and praising the world-building, comedic tone, and "engaging" characters

Polygon.

Polygon's Joshua Rivera was equally impressed with the series preview, calling it "an affectionate and faithful adaptation of one of the most engaging fantasy stories in recent memory."

We don't think "Delicious in Dungeon" is for you. If you're still struggling to find your next Netflix, you can find more recommendations in our article on the best Netflix shows.
