The 5 best shows like "The Walking Dead" available for streaming right now

One of the most iconic and enduring series in television history, The Walking Dead has proven to be one of the best apocalyptic dramas. Strong storytelling, complex characters, and relentless zombie action. What more could you ask for?

Whether you're a longtime fan mourning the end of such a great show (I definitely am) or a newcomer eager to explore other apocalyptic worlds, there is no shortage of gripping drama to rival the excitement of "The Walking Dead." We've found five of the best shows that offer thrilling adventure and survival stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Here are a few that look just like "The Walking Dead" that you can stream on the best streaming services, including Netflix, Prime Video, and Max.

"The Last of Us" is a post-apocalyptic drama series based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name (also my favorite game). It tells the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal), a harsh survivor, and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a young girl who may hold the key to humanity's survival. Set in a world ravaged by a fungal infection that turns people into zombie-like creatures, the film follows the pair's journey across a devastated America.

Joel smuggles Ellie out of the quarantine zone and takes her on a mission across the United States to a group called "Firefly," who believe Ellie's immunity to the infection will lead to a cure. Along the way, the two face many dangers, including infected organisms, hostile humans, and the harsh realities of their world, but they forge a deep father-daughter bond.

One of the most popular Korean historical horror-thriller series is The Kingdom. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the plot follows Crown Prince Lee Chang (Joo Ji-hoon) as he investigates a mysterious plague that is spreading throughout his kingdom. The story begins with the king falling ill under suspicious circumstances, leading to rumors of his death and a power struggle within the court. As the prince searches for the truth, he discovers that the king's illness is related to a deadly epidemic that brings the dead back to life. The plague spreads rapidly, turning the infected into ferocious flesh-eating zombies.

Prince Lee Chang, along with his loyal allies, including a doctor named Seobi (Bae Doona) and a warrior named Muyoung (Kim Sang-ho), must fight both the undead and corrupt officials who seek power.

"Death Penalty for All" is another Korean zombie horror series that I absolutely love. It takes place in a high school where the students are trapped after a sudden zombie outbreak. As the infection spreads rapidly, the students must cope with the chaos around them and survive. The story follows the students, each with his or her own personality and background, as they navigate the hallways, classrooms, and various facilities of the school in order to escape the undead.

They face betrayal and the constant threat of being bitten and turning into zombies themselves. Of course, the students not only have to fight zombies, but also make difficult decisions about whom to trust and how to survive together.

The "Fallout" TV series is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name and is unlike anything you have ever experienced. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where civilization has been devastated by a nuclear war. Ella Purnell plays a young woman named Lucy who emerges from a shelter to explore the world, Walton Goggins plays a ghoul suffering from the physical effects of radiation, and Aaron Morten plays Maximus, a steel-bound member.

Obviously, there are no zombies in "Fallout," but it still portrays the after-effects of nuclear war and (like "The Walking Dead") humans as more dangerous than anything else.

"Station Eleven" focuses on survivors of a post apocalyptic world in which a flu pandemic has wiped out most of the world's population. Because the focus is on how humans react to this situation, zombies and mutated creatures do not appear.

The story intertwines the timeline before, during, and after the pandemic, as well as the complete collapse of society when the survivors are left to fend for themselves. It aims to explore the lives of various characters and how they cope with loss, loneliness, and the search for meaning in a radically altered world. Given that there are only 10 episodes in the miniseries, it would be easy to watch all of the episodes in a weekend.
