MacBook with touch screen? A new report suggests that they are comingー that we know

With the release of Apple's new iPad Pro2024, we are approaching an era when the Cupertino-based company's premier tablet will be a legitimate laptop replacement. Today is not that day, but we are just one step closer.

Computing expert Tony Polanco loved the iPad Pro M4 in his review, but it's still ready to become the portable laptop we dream of, and part of what holds it is the operating system itself and the lack of a big laptop-esque screen.

But how can Apple's laptop lineup lean more to the tablet space? Based on a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, adding a touchscreen is a potential option in the MacBook Pro lineup.

It's a blink, and you'll miss it lining up among Gurman's thoughts on apple and a summary of the various moves the company is making. But he says Apple is working on bringing OLED display and touch screen support to MacBook laptops. But his report blurs the timeline and says it will "come in the next few years.""Although Apple is clearly committed to keeping the iPad and MacBook as separate devices going forward.

The problem is that iPadOS is not built for multitasking. I've tried Stage Manager and Split View, but they don't offer the same ease of use and functionality as MacBook. As our expert, Mark Spoonauer, said, "Apple Silicon is so advanced that I think Apple simply needs to blow up iPadOS and start over.

He suggested that iPadOS probably run when the tablet is undocked, but switch to macOS when it is docked with a magic keyboard.

The problem we continue to encounter is that the app is not really designed for the latest and best work-based take on the iPad as well. Using Chrome can also be confusing on Apple's slabs.  At present, most of our editorial team prefers the MacBook over the iPad model as an everyday tool. For us, the laptop still works best as a device for work. That said, game and content consumption is much better on the iPad, mainly due to its portability and the power of the new M4 chip.

Perhaps the biggest problem going forward is price. The top of the line iPad Pro M4 with Magic Keyboard runs over2, 200 or more. On the other hand, you can get a MacBook Pro or Air with similar specifications closer to the closer1,699.
