WWDC2024 should start a huge partnership between apple and OpenAI - here's how it converts your iPhone

We have already heard that Apple's upcoming iOS 18 software could represent the "biggest" update in history thanks to the massive addition of new AI features to the iphone, which includes everything from email and web page summaries to voice notes and transcription of AI-generated images and emojis.

But when it comes to deploying new AI capabilities, Apple is reportedly not making progress on that alone. 4, reports surfaced that Apple resumed a dialog with OpenAI to bring the Chatgpt feature to the iPhone.By mid-may 5, I heard that Apple and Open AI are reportedly close to a deal.

The deal appears to be sealed as information is reported that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has secured a deal with Apple. This is clearly a big blow for Google, which wanted to bring the Gemini AI tool to the iPhone to join the existing multi-billion dollar Google Search partnership.

So how can we change the iPhone experience by bringing ChatGPT AI to Apple's coveted smartphone? If Apple decides to take advantage of the latest GPT-4o technology, it could supercharge Siri with a much more powerful voice and visual assistant. Our AI editor Ryan Morrisson got a live demo of ChatGPT-4o voice, and he said that if anything, the technology is undervalued.

Imagine Siri, but has more intelligence and more emotion. You can interrupt it, ask follow-up questions and get a live translation on the spot. Most importantly, GPT-4o is more conversational, so Siri can easily get that injection. According to reports of information, Apple engineers are testing ChatGPT behind the scenes and connecting it to Siri. The result was an impressive demonstration of Siri handling more complex queries than usual, including a better understanding of the context of what users are saying."

Existing Siri was having a terrible time catching up with the infamous Rabbit R2 device when it tested two heads in a series of queries, so this Siri about context is not very good at answering follow-up questions for now.  To be clear, Apple has not announced a partnership with OpenAI, nor has it announced plans for how to use the technology. However, Apple reportedly discussed using OpenAI for Siri voice assistant to answer questions that would normally not be answered by itself. Apple may also decide to deploy another chatbot-like app powered by OpenAI. But it's clear that the buzzy GPT-4o demo is explicitly designed to sign a contract with Apple. And most of the demo was the enhanced vision feature of OpenAI. The point is that you should be able to point your phone's camera at objects for identification, as well as people to measure mood and emotional state. We had the opportunity to try out the vision feature of ChatGPT-4o at a few prompts and were impressed, but also made some mistakes.

So it's not surprising that Apple is more likely to let users know when they're getting the responses generated by OpenAI and ChatGPT against their own models.

Nevertheless, siri is likely to be more likely as Apple is trying to keep up with Google Lens, which is getting an even bigger boost in Gemini Live. It could be a game changer because it could add vision features to your game. Even without OpenAI, Siri is reportedly getting a major upgrade on iOS18 because it's heard it can provide voice control for a variety of apps, including notes, photos, and emails. This feature will be available to third-party apps in the future.  The end result is that iOS18 and Siri, with the help of OpenAI, are likely to be smarter, assuming the deal is legal and will be announced at WWDC next week.
