Computex2024's MSI laptop is about AI and the latest Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix Point chips

Computex2024 is in full swing in Taipei this week, and MSI has brought a boat load of new laptops to the show — and they all have state-of-the-art AMD Strix Point or Intel Lunar Lake chips inside.

These are the first laptops we've seen from the company arriving to sport these shiny new slices of silicon inside, and this is a big deal because MSI is talking about how they will be augmented by next-generation AI capabilities.

In fact, they all seem to meet Microsoft's minimum requirements for next-generation AI PCs, so they need to support all of the latest advanced Windows11 and Copilot AI capabilities.

These new laptops are spread across some of MSI's product lines and are ideal for business and productivity notebooks. In addition to both games and Co, there are still no details on what's in these laptops, how much they will cost, and when they will be in stores, but MSI says it will ship them all in 2024.

MSI unveiled at least 6 new productivity laptops at Computex this week, spreading its prestige and Summit line. They are all 13-inch, 14-inch, or 16-inch models, and all come with a new line of Intel's Lunar Lake Cpus inside. All of these Lunar Lake chips are equipped with npu (Neural Processing Unit) capable of 40+ TOPS (trillions of operations per second), which meets Microsoft's next-generation AI PC requirements, so as a Copilot+ Pc MSI says its love affair with tech industry initials shows no signs of slowing down and all these new laptops will have "AI+" blocked. We are inclined to the focus of this AI because it is land-based. Most of these new laptops come with Intel CPUs, and the title includes "Evo", which makes it distinguishable. These include MSI Summit13AI+Evo, Prestige13AI+Evo, Prestige14AI+Evo and Prestige16AI+Evo laptops.

As you can see from the specification table, there are no details yet on the contents or cost of these laptops, but that they all come with a Lunar Lake Cpu and Wi-Fi7.

If you prefer AMD on laptops, MSI has two variants of these laptops with Amd's new Strix Point Cpu inside.2 There are also options: Prestige A16AI and Summit A16AI+ If you're confused, you're not alone.

These AMD models can't offer the same Thunderbolt port as their Intel counterparts due to motherboard limitations, but are basically the same as their Intel-powered counterparts

If you prefer your laptop with an onboard discrete graphics card, MSI will also be able to offer the same Thunderbolt port as their Intel counterparts. Also, some new just for you

The company has updated one of the big n'befy 16-inch laptop lines with AMD's latest chips, calling these new models the Stealth A16AI+ and Creator A16AI+, both of which have AMD's state-of-the-art Strix Point laptop chips built in and powerful. It can also be configured with discrete Nvidia GeForce RTX4000 Series laptop GPUs.

But again, we are working on incomplete information at the moment. MSI provided a decent summary of what to expect with the Stealth A16AI+, but we haven't seen the specs for the newly announced Creator A16AI+ laptop yet. It could be pretty close to what's available with the new 16-inch stealth, but I'm waiting for confirmation from MSI and will update this post when I get it.

These new laptops from MSI give us a glimpse of what to expect from mobile computing in 2025.There's a confusing branding of AI everywhere, often Copilot+ or AI+, or next-generation AI.

And perhaps that is ultimately a good thing in the long run. With AI seen as a selling point, laptop manufacturers are in competition to pack as many tops into their machines as possible — and that will ultimately be a challenge for users who can rely on these new AI features to perform tedious and frustrating tasks. It can lead to more happiness and a decrease in work.

But it is a promise, not a reality. I've been testing laptops, desktops and apps on the cutting edge of the AI boom since it started, and I want to put up with the frustration of AI software

Now that so many laptops are shipped with powerful Npu onboard with thin and light design, perhaps we can jump aboard. We are trying to see a real sea change in the state of AI software, which can surface a slew of reasons why the AI software is so popular. But until the software is convincing, I don't see many reasons to buy these laptops unless you need 1.
