7 Top New Movies To Watch on Netflix, Max, Hulu and More (6/4-10)

The best streaming services, including Netflix, Max and Hulu, offer new movies that subscribers can enjoy, from Oscar-nominated dramas to wicked funny comedies starring rising star Glenn Powell.

This week, the spotlight is on the late Amy Winehouse as director Sam Taylor Johnson explores her rocky path to fame, starting with the latest musical biopic "Back to Black" about the world superstar. In addition, Dakota Johnson is trying to wipe the memory of "Madame Web" from our minds with Max's new film, and the slice of life drama "Perfect Days" has hit Hulu.

My highlight of the week was Netflix's "Hitman.""I can catch an early screening of this mystery comedy and be sure that it is an absolute hoot."" Glenn Powell is great in the lead role, and despite its rather dark subject matter, the cheerful tone is the spot on.

If you're looking for fresh new movies to stream at home this week, I'm here to help with the helpful guide below. And check out our list of the best new TV shows you can watch this week "Star Wars: Acolyte of Disney Plus".

Music biopics continue to be hugely popular in "Back to Black," which chronicles the tragic life and career of Amy Winehouse, who died from alcoholism at the age of 27. Winehouse is a soulful singer with a killer voice, and the biopic of director Sam Taylor Johnson puts a lid on the difficult career of the London-born performer, exploring the tumultuous relationship between ex-husband Blake (Jack O'Connell) and his father Mitch (Eddie Marsan).

The Film Takes Its Name While the recording process for the 2006 album is the focus, the film also explores the life of Winehouse after the success of the record juggernaut and explores how it leads to the drug and alcohol addiction spiral she struggled to break free of. The film has been criticized for gloss over the really dark parts of Amy's life, but it's undeniable that Marisa Abella always shines in the lead role, and her performances

The choice for Japan's best international film at the 2024 Academy Awards, "Perfect Days" can be found in everyday life Hirayama (Yakusho Koji), who is cleaning the toilet in Tokyo, lives a simple life and is happy with a lot. After a structured existence, he spends his free time listening to his favorite music on tape, reading books and shooting trees.

Through a series of unexpected encounters, Hirayama's past is revealed, revealing the reasons for his humble life. "Perfect Days" has been highly praised by critics since its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023-5 and currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The pleasant timbre and superb filmmaking are admirable, but it's a performance from Yakusho Koji who steals the show.  If you're looking for a simple but pleasant movie, "Perfect Days" is the ideal choice for this week.

"Hitman" is a hilarious mystery comedy from director Richard Linklater and one of Netflix's strongest original films in years. After catching an early preview last month, it steeped straight into the list of my favorite movies of 2024, the highest praise I can muster, and this film will make Glenn Powell even more solid as one of Hollywood's biggest rising stars.1 I'm not the only one obsessed with the film, but the Netflix film currently has a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In "Hitman," Powell plays Gary Johnson, a low・key high school teacher who moonlight as a fake hitman working for a cop. Taking a range of fake characters to sell the ruse, Gary helps the New Orleans Police Department arrest people looking to hire assassins, but Gary breaks the protocol when a beautiful woman named Madison (Adria Arjona) asks for his help eliminating her abusive husband. Desperate to hide his true identity from Madison, Gary finds himself slipping into a dangerous game of deception that could have fatal consequences

As the name suggests, "The Stranger: Chapter 1" is only the first installment of a planned trilogy (three The film will be shot continuously and released within a shorter timeframe, and "Chapter 2" is scheduled for later this year). "The Strangers: Chapter1" serves as a renewal of the Slasher franchise at events for the 2008 original and 2018 sequels, supporting the characters of a new cast led by Madelaine Petsch from "Riverdale" and Froy Gutierrez, a graduate of "Teen Wolf".

Many of the more unnecessary remakes than re-imagined, "Stranger: Chapter 1" follows the same wide strokes as the original. It sees a young couple (Petchi and Gutierrez) facing a night of pure horror when they are forced to spend the night in a far-flung hut and stalked by 3 assailants wearing anxious masks. These strangers do not seem to have the motivation to terrorize the couple and are not condescending to their bloody desires. If you are looking for cheap horror thrills, you can find a lot here, but you can find some very wooden acting from Reed
