Godzilla has been leveling the streets for over 70 years, but "Godzilla: Minus One" is easily one of the strongest efforts of the iconic monster challenge.

The latest work marries an emotional story set at the end of World War II with fantastic special effects that show off the raw power of Godzilla and win the Oscar deserving for the best visual effects on the team behind them. After becoming one of the best films of 2023, "Godzilla: Minus One" is now having a big impact after dropping to Netflix at the end of the month, 1:5.

Directed by Bon Joon-ho (of the fame of "Parasite" and "Snowpiercer"), "Host", an American military pathologist has turned Holm into his assistant. We're seeing aquatic monsters emerging from the Han River in South Korea and terrorizing the local area a few years after they ordered hundreds of bottles of aldehyde to be dumped into drains. 

During the attack, the monster snatches the daughter of snack bar owner Park Gan Doo (Song Kang Ho) and hurries with her, prompting rescue efforts to the appearance of a clumsy father. Like "Godzilla Minus One," it's a monster movie with something to say, with a satirical edge and anxiety about humanity's impact on the environment.

The incarnation of everyone's favorite monster "Godzilla Minus One" has certainly proved to be the destructive power of Toho's latest movie, but I'd bet this Godzilla isn't as anxious as the one in "New Godzilla." 

Here, Godzilla is reimagined as a more grotesque and ever-evolving creature, whose bodies stretch and mutate, responding to new threats, and bureaucrats scramble to respond to this unpredictable behemoth. While the visual effects may not be as impressive as the Oscar-winning work made in "Godzilla Minus One," "Shin Godzilla" is still worth a look, and the best in the franchise so far

If you're after another poignant war story, check out Studio Ghibli's animation. The story focuses on two young war orphan brothers as they fight for survival in the last months of World War II.It is a desolate but deeply touching meditation on war, one that skillfully shows the fear and pain felt by everyone living through conflict. If "Godzilla Minus One" makes you cry, "Tomb of Fireflies" may break your heart.
