"Our Last" Season 2 episode count confirmed — and there's good news and bad news

The wait for "The Last of Us" Season 2 is starting to feel tortuous Until now, fans had to comfort themselves with cast news and leaked images from the show's set, but now they have some solid details about how the season will be structured from its creative team

In a lengthy interview with Deadline, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, co-showrunners of the "The Last of Us" TV show, confirmed that Season 2 of the hugely popular HBO show will consist of 7 episodes This is a drop from "The Last of Us" season 9, which consists of 1 episode, but the pair point out that the length of the 1 season 2 episode is "quite large"It hopes to make up for the drop

Regarding the decision to cut the number of episodes for the show's sophomore run, Mazin said, "The narrative material we got from Part II of the game is much more than the narrative material that was in the first game, so part of the thing we had to do from the beginning was learn how to tell that story across the seasons" It was to find out

"When you do it, you look for a natural breakpoint, and as we laid it out, this season, the national breakpoint, it's seven"

Fans have already speculated widely online how the vast story of The Last of Us Part2 will be split We have a lot to offer The most common theory is that the game of golf will be played in the final episode of "Our Last" season 2I will not say any more to avoid spoilers Anyone who has played the game of 2020 will know what it means

Superficially, the fewer episodes may suggest a more truncated retelling of the game's storyline, but don't be afraid of Last of Us fans "We just want to reassure people that the idea that this season is a little shorter than the first season is not because it doesn't take long to tell the story, but because we want to spend more time," Mazin said

The co-showrunners also said, "The story we're saying is much bigger than the story of Season 1, just a lot is going on, it's going to produce

HBO has only updated "The Last of Us" throughout Season 2, but Mazin and Druckmann are already looking ahead, and they're looking forward to it" We have laid out a roadmap to cover additional seasons

"I don't think we can tell the story even in Season 1 [2 and 3] because we're taking the time and going down an interesting path that we've done a little bit in Season 2," Mazin explained "As long as people keep watching and we can keep making more TV, it feels like it's almost certainly happening that Season 3 will be pretty big and certainly, the story may need Season 4"

In fact, Mazin may have confirmed that our last part 2 story needs three full seasons of TV to adapt, as he added, "One thing is absolutely certain, we can tell the story that remains after Season 2 is completed in another season"" I don't know how you can do that

In the same interview, Mazin also shot down the idea that the show would do "Game of Thrones" and cover events that go beyond the 2 video games currently available "There is no world where we want our show to go beyond the source material that the people of the world have," Mazin said

"Our show is trying to cover material from the second game, as people know it on HBO, and quite a bit of material related to that story is, as I said, wandering an interesting new path, an invisible story told within the context of that game material

Neil Druckmann, also our last developer Naughty Dog head, echoed Mazin's reassurance: "Our focus is on two games As Craig mentioned, there's quite a bit of material that we're taking time to look at each piece individually, ensuring that the characters have their own arc, their own journey, but there's a more grandiose plan that unites all seasons

"The Last of Us" Season 2 is currently in production and is scheduled to premiere in 2025 It again stars pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as joel and Ellie, 2 survivors of a post-apocalyptic world full of mutated infections New cast members for Season 2 include Kaitlyn Dever, Jeffrey Wright, Young Mazino and Isabela Merced
