It looks like Google is set to supercharge the lens with two major upgrades — Forget ChatGPT Vision

Google Lens has improved significantly over the past few years, particularly with the recent addition of Circle's search capabilities. But it still sounds like there's a lot to do, and Google can add features called "search by video" and "search by voice" to the arsenal of Google Lens.

Last year, Google added a way to add some extra context to the lens search, in the form of "Multisearch" and "Multisearch near me". The idea here is to use either voice or text to help narrow the search results and hopefully you are looking for easier also This is not the easiest process in the world, although it is useful. According to the APK teardown of assembleDebug (via Android Authority), searching by voice can streamline the whole process. And it's not a very different system than the way you trigger a circle to search for a query.

How it seems to work is to open Google Lens and then hold down the shutter button. Instead of snapping a photo, Lens starts listening to voice commands and snaps a photo of the subject. In this case, it means that Google knows to look for a charger like a charger in a frame, but not necessarily its exact model."

assembleDebug notes that the search in the video was only referenced in the code and could not actually get the function to work. Judging by the code string "Record video and hold it to search by voice", it could work in a very similar way. The advantage of video is that you can see something from multiple different angles, but it gives you more information to work with Google Lens.

This feature is not currently public, and we don't know when Google will publish it. However, it's good to make sure that Google Lens features are continually improving. It's especially good after Circle To Search has proven to simplify the whole process. So for now, we just need to be patient and see if these features will roll out in the coming months.
