Google's Find my Device app now connects to Family links so parents can monitor their children

Google's new Find My Device network has finally returned to a fairly muted reception on May 4. Tracking the new device was fairly basic at first, and international deployment was rather slow. However, Google seems to be preparing to start offering some key features to the network, including support for Google's Family Links.

Family Link is Google's parental control software that allows you to set and place restrictions on your child's Android phone. Screen time limits, control the apps and websites they visit, track your device, and more. That last part is where finding support for my device comes into play.

According to Android Authority's assembleDebug, the latest version of the Find My Device app has a "Family devices" tab. This means that you can view the location of the device linked to your Google account via a family link — and you

The Family link part is important and will only see the device if your account is set to oversee another . That doesn't mean they can track you, nor can they track who's added to your Google One account. First you need to check the move to set up Google Family Link.

This is a very small change in the grand scheme of things, but it also means that parents can find every child's phone in the same place as all other devices, from cell phones to Bluetooth trackers, that Google find my device is a robust device tracking network. No more jumping into the Family Links app and navigating its many tabs.

It looks like a new version of Find My Device is currently being rolled out. Obviously, if you're not using Family Link to oversee your device, this won't have a big impact on you. But if your child is using an Android device, this may make your life easier. Try to keep the app up to date.
