Samsung adds AI capabilities to Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, no one is surprised

Samsung is working on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, which will be released later this summer, and it sounds like the Galaxy AI is in line with the ride.

It's not always surprising that the next foldable thing coming out of Samsung will include AI capabilities. Any flagship phone that comes out these days is trying to tout its artificial intelligence bona fide, and Samsung is trying to boost the amount of AI baked into its devices,

but now Samsung has made it official and that a new foldable one is underway, as well as making sure that Galaxy AI will be so many parts of the picture today. In a blog posted on (6/7), Won-Joon Choi, Samsung's Head of mobile Research and Development, suggests that the AI included in the latest Fold and Flip models will take advantage of the unique designs of these phones.

"We will further optimize the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices to deliver an all-new and unique AI experience," Choi said. "Our foldable is the most versatile and flexible form factor on the Samsung Galaxy, and when combined with Galaxy AI, these 2 complementary technologies come together to unlock all new possibilities."

Cui has avoided naming specific models in his statement, but based on rumors about his development plans at the smartphone giant, it is clear that he is referring to the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6. Samsung will generally release a new foldable in the second half of the year, so the timing is correct and there is a lot of speculation out there that the next Galaxy unpacked event could take place soon 7/10, as Samsung reportedly announced a new phone before the Paris Olympics. We hope to announce that we will be able to do so in the future.

The more interesting part of Choi's announcement centers around plans to "optimize" the collapsible Galaxy AI. This has sparked speculation that the new AI features Samsung will show off at the Galaxy Z Fold6/Galaxy Z Flip6 launch will be specially tailored to devices with folding screens.

It is clear that Samsung also likes the AI on the device, and Apple is reportedly aiming to offer iOS18, which is due to be previewed next week. It's a great place to start. In his post, Choi talks about the privacy aspect of AI on devices, especially when performing tasks like translation on devices "to experience barrier-free communication without worrying about privacy issues." To that end, Choi also announced that the Live Translate AI feature, introduced on the Galaxy S24 earlier this year, will soon be available on third-party messaging apps that support voice calls. Live Translate is a real-time tool that provides translation of conversations with people talking on the phone.
