Netflix confirms a slate of new movies for 2024-6, and the streaming service is offering subscribers a fresh collection of seriously high-quality flicks this month
Perhaps the most exciting thing is that this month's review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes scored more than 90% of the film's selection, including Netflix's original "Hit Man"This screwball comedy with Dark Edge comes from director Richard Linklater and stars Glenn Powell as an undercover contract killer working for a cop who finds him descending into a world of deception when he falls for a troubled woman looking for a hired gun Powell also co-wrote the film with Linklater
Other highlights include an award-winning musical that includes an a-list star and 1 of my favorite animated films
"Hitman" is not the best Netflix original movie you can watch this month, but one of the streamers' best efforts to date From director Richard Linklater to Gary (Glenn Powell), this evil funny romance game centered on a moonlight teacher as a fake contract killer as part of a police sting operation is simple: he employs one of several personas, pretends to be an assassin for employment, and then the cops come in and hire Gary's service1 It's a good idea to take a look at some of the things you can do to make sure you get the most out of your life
However, things get complicated when you meet a desperate housewife (Adria Arhona) who is trying to escape her abusive husband There is an immediate attraction between the pair, so Gary decides to maintain a ploy to approach this supposed maiden But as he descends further into the game's deceptive world, he may have to become a killer he thought was simply pretending

One of the most fun films ever made, "La La Land" is a musical full of vivid colors1 The pairing between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and director Damien Chazelle proved to be a winning combination, with the latter becoming the youngest winner of the Academy Award for Best Director and Stone scooping her first Oscar for her acting
Set in, you guessed it, sunny Los Angeles, California, "La La Land" focuses on two characters, Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress who works in a coffee shop, Seb (Gosling), a pianist in a cocktail bar who dreams of opening his own jazz club This site is for sale The duo meet after an unlikely accidental encounter, but later reunited at a pool party, from which an epic love story begins But as the pair chase their dreams, their lifelong goals can tear them apart Also packed with memorable music numbers, "La La Land" is a treat from start to finish

Everything is seriously awesome "Lego movies," a beloved Pra to life in a way that nostalgic fans like me had previously dreamed of, the quality of the animation imitating the look of the stop-motion Lego videos I spent hooked on as a child is reason enough to watch Even better, the character and frequent meta-humor are spot-on
"The Lego Movie" opens in the town of Brixburg and sees an optimistic construction worker named Emmet (the voice of chris Pratt) go about his very simple daily life But his blissful ignorance of the sinister side of the Lego universe shatters when he stumbles into the "resistance part" of the fable, and it's up to the generally ignorant Emmet to partner with the maniac Lord's business (Will Uber-cool rebel Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks)) to save the day without falling to pieces Below is a hilarious romp through a variety of Lego settings with lots of fun cameos, from Justice League to Shaquille O'Neal

"Aftersun" is one of the most emotionally exhausting films I've ever seen, and I mean it as a compliment1 Charlotte Wells' directorial debut, and inspired by her own life, "Aftersun" follows 11-year-old precocious Sophie (Frankie Corio) on vacation with her father, Callum (Paul Mezcal) The two bond in the sun and fly around the pool as Sophie enjoys spending quality time with her warm-hearted parents, whom she idolizes
But the film has a serious dark side The film is partially framed as a series of home video footage, in which old Charlotte watches these videos and reflects her father's memories Bittersweet to the extreme, "Aftersun" is a devastating masterpiece, and I recommend it to all, but just be warned it's a heavy watch

"Crazy Rich Asians" was a pop culture blockbuster that broke out in a massive way in 2018, but it's not hard to understand why It not only proudly carries a flag for on-screen representation (a cause worth celebrating), but it is also a very pleasant film in itself It is a charming character, witty writing and John MPack a solid direction from Chu and what you don't love about this antics romantic comedy
The stacked cast includes Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lou, Awkwardness and Ken John And you better believe that I have not ever forgotten the wonderful Michelle Yeoh; many were first introduced to her in his award-winning role in "All at Once in All Places", but here her performance is just as wonderful Rom-com sees Rachel (Wu) travel with her boyfriend Nick (Golding) to his hometown of Singapore for a lavish wedding So she discovered that Nick's family is not only mega-rich, but also considered one of the most desirable bachelor's degrees across Asia1

If you're looking for something new on Netflix that breaks your heart and brings it back, "Carol" is the flick you've been looking for This gorgeous romantic film by Todd Haynes stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as two women, young and timid, another older and confident, who begin a forbidden affair in 1950s New York The eponymous Carol (Blanchett) intrigues Therese (Mara) instantly when the two first meet at a Manhattan department store, and this encounter will eventually shape both lives
There's a lot to admire about "Carol" The movie plays almost in a dreamlike state, but despite its muted color palette and gentle pacing, it never feels sleepy That's because of a great screenplay based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt," which largely depends on the phenomenal performance of the entire cast and Blanchett steals the show, but you'll also be seriously impressed by Mara's understated acting
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 94% Streaming on Netflix from 6/17
If you enjoyed "The Lego Movie," you'll probably get a real kick from the equally excellent "The Lego Batman Movie" This wonderfully silly superhero spinoff sees Arnett's Caped Crusader take center stage This plastic brick version of the Dark Knight is disappointing when forced to take care of a young orphan named Dick Grayson (Michael Serra) Deciding to take a wide-eyed boy under his wing as his ward Robin, Batman is also teaming up with Barabba Gordon aka Batgirl (Rosario Dawson) to take on the villainous Joker (Zach Galifianakis)
The "Lego Batman movie" will appeal to bat fans of all ages Slapstick comedy and vibrant animation will delight younger audiences, and older viewers will get a real kick out of the many playful jabs of Batman's iconic past (there's a particularly great gag that lovingly aimed at Adam West's 60s characters) In addition, a comprehensive message about the importance of teamwork is worth it, if not a little cliché of this genre
