Samsung Galaxy S25 chips for a very necessary camera upgrade — we know

This camera is one of the key selling points of Samsung's Galaxy Ultra phone, the S24Ultra boasts 50MP, 5x telephoto zoom, 200MP main camera lens and more. And, thanks to a new leak, you may have figured out what the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25Ultra also has to offer.

In the Weibo serial, the Samsung leaker Ice Universe claims the Galaxy S25Ultra will feature a major upgrade to its ultra-wide-angle and secondary 3x telephoto lenses. Apparently the phone will increase the resolution to 50MP with both lenses, which is a big upgrade from the Galaxy S24Ultra's 12MP and 10MP shooters.

However, the main and primary 5x telephoto lenses clearly do not change. This makes sense given that the 5x telephoto lens has already been boosted to 24MP in S50Ultra, but the 200MP resolution of the main lens has already been Samsung's primary

There have been rumors that Samsung will scrap the 3x telephoto lens in favor of digital crop-and-zoom technology. But Ice Universe has previously refuted that rumor and promised that S25Ultra will hold its 4th camera lens. And, fortunately, it sounds like Samsung may be offering the necessary upgrades to the lens.

The performance of the camera isn't just about resolution, but an upgrade to a better sensor could bring serious benefits to the Galaxy S25Ultra. It offers improved low-light performance, improved digital and hybrid zoom, high-resolution video recording, and even support for macro shooting with a 3x telephoto lens.

In addition, if you do not increase the resolution, it is possible that Samsung will lag behind its rivals. According to rumors, the iPhone16Pro Max comes with a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and the Pixel8Pro already offers 48MP resolution with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. At least Samsung needs to match its biggest rivals, even if it's a game of superficial numbers.

It's unclear for now whether rumors of a variable telephoto lens will materialize this year. I'd like to see a lens that can jump between 4x and 7x optical magnification, but I've been disappointed by those rumors before.
