I have some serious competition that just drove 100 miles on a Ford Mach-E GT—Tesla model Y

Ford's Mach-E2024 has been given a GT treatment, further bridging the gap between modern EV performance and Mustang sports car roots. Equipped with a new rear e-motor intended to rival the likes of Tesla model Y, this year's Mach-E GT is a little more fun to drive a practical SUV.

The Mach-E GT introduces several more upgrades than the regular "ol Mach-E". For reference, the model Y performance model will be 3.5 seconds from 0 to 60.

The 480hp is the same as last year's Mach-E GT, but Ford was able to increase its torque from 700 pounds to 600 pounds thanks to an in-house developed and manufactured e-motor. This motor also lowers production costs (obviously delivered to customers) and is easy to service.

In order to use the mach-E GT in much of Seattle, Ford's new motors had to be activated. As someone who is not yet fully familiar with the Ev world, I discovered a rather intuitive Mach-E GT to start driving and I had a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen di

My route took me through bustling cities, flat farmland, covered forests and winding mountains. All the while, the Mach-E GT offered a comfortable ride courtesy of the Ford performance front seats, Brembo front brakes and Magneride damping suspension that come standard in all versions of the Mach-E GT going forward — costs entry53,995 and is available for entry. Even the level GT.

It's a massive premium14,000 premium to jump from the baseline Ford Mach-E, but you almost double the horsepower, double the torque, the equivalent performance trim of the extended model Y for AWD and GT is$54,130 for reference.

As I was driving, I noticed that the range of the GT model was changing. This is likely thanks to the cloud-based intelligent range feature, which provides more accurate range estimation based on my route, traffic changes and even my driving habits. While following the route, I also had to refuel, including the currently compatible Tesla Supercharger station, the nearby EV charging option

The biggest battery drain of my trip came on the highway, as expected. I started pushing the speed of the car and smoothly accelerated through the on-ramp. When I went to change lanes, I pushed my right foot down on the pedal with a little more weight to pull in front of the car I was about to pass. Once calmed down, I enabled BlueCruise autonomous driving technology to keep my lanes and speeds in check compared to the cars around me. BlueCruise can also safely change lanes on my behalf in just a few seconds.

I didn't have to worry too much about the car's cargo capacity as I was testing it for the afternoon, but I was surprised to learn that the Mach-E GT has 64.4 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats down. It's slightly smaller than the 72.1 cubic feet offered by Model Y, but still spacious enough.

Despite dealing with the mercurial Seattle weather, the Mach-E GT2024 was made for a fun ride. It has all the practicality you need to get around on a daily basis, but ask to be driven fast. I know it's not necessary for everyone shopping for an EV, and certainly not in the price range, but if you're a performer [19
