Samsung plans to offer the new Galaxy Z Fold6 later this year. And when it happens, it is possible that the new foldable can come in a distinctly different appearance from the models of the past — and something that some people may not be attractive.

Serial leaker Ice Universe posted an image of the Galaxy Z Fold6 featuring sharp corners that give the phone a boxy look. This is far from the rounded corners that the Galaxy Z Fold5 has.

The image shows only a small part of what it assumes to be a Galaxy Z Fold6, so it's hard to fully taste what Samsung can cook. But the wider look would seem to confirm another rumor about the upcoming foldable — that it's getting a wider aspect ratio cover display, consistent with features seen on rival devices like the OnePlus Open and Google Pixel Fold.

For all the strengths of the Galaxy Z Fold, the cover display has been a source of criticism because it is so narrow compared to similar foldable. This makes it difficult to enter and take notes on the cover display. By contrast, the OnePlus Open and Pixel Fold offer a wider working space, so it's less important to deploy one of the devices to get the work done.

The wider cover display may be one of the more significant changes to the Galaxy Z Fold this year, but it's not just the z Fold1 rumors in circulation. The device certainly has many of the Galaxy AI features that Samsung offers on the Galaxy S24. Recently, it has also been reported that the Galaxy Z Fold6 uses only the Snapdragon 8GEN3 chipset to improve performance and battery life. Samsung is due to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold6 at the Galaxy Unpacked event this summer, with 7/10 the most talked about. Samsung's foldable launch will be faster than usual, but given that the Galaxy S24 arrived on May 1, Samsung seems to be leaning toward an early launch this year.
