OpenAI seems to be in a generous spirit, offering all users many of ChatGPT's features that were previously reserved for those who pay無料20 a month for free.

The move was first announced during the spring update, along with the impressive new voice-to-voice capabilities of GPT-4o and ChatGPT. The voice feature has not yet been launched, but GPT-4o is now widely available for free and paid accounts.

Free users will have access to hundreds of thousands of custom Gpt created by companies and individuals, data and code analysis tools, the ability to upload images and comment on chatbots, and of course GPT-4o itself.

There's a catch to all of this generosity thought — you can't make a custom Gpt with a free account, image generation in DALL-E is not available, and you only get about 3.5 messages at a time on GPT-4o before you go back to GPT-10. 

OpenAI states that it aims to put advanced artificial intelligence tools in the hands of as many people as possible and make both Gpt-4o and other tools free on ChatGPT.

That is likely to be the case in itself, but other factors are considered, such as increased competition from Microsoft with co-pilots with GPT-4o, and Claude3 from Anthropic and Google.

Microsoft has been offering GPTs, image generation, and data analysis in the free version of Copilot since day one, and uses fee limits to distinguish paid plans. OpenAI is currently doing the same thing.

As well as giving more people a better first impression of what is possible with AI, the move is likely to increase subscriptions, as the free plan only offers a limited number of messages (probably around 10) using GPT-4o and advanced tools. With the free version of ChatGPT, you can now access OpenAI's most advanced generic AI model, GPT-4o, code and data analysis, image upload and GPTs.

What you don't get is the ability to create your own custom GPT chatbot, create images using DALL-E, and access the ChatGPT desktop app for Mac, at least for now.

OpenAI says that paid accounts will also get access to new voice and vision features in the first place.

The company also added that users on paid plans get five times more messages using GPT-4o per day than free users. I've been testing it and despite the very heavy use, the paid plan has not yet reached the rate limit.
