New iOS18 report confirmed huge AI upgrade - Siri, photos and more

All tech companies are investing heavily in AI. Apple is a bit slow to jump into the AI space, but the company seems to have plummeted in iOS18. Recent reports have broken some of the AI features Apple plans to bring to iOS18, and it sounds like some good stuff is going on.

The new report from Apple Insider seems to confirm the original Mark Gurman report as well as provide some new information. The new report describes features that include photo editing, notes, image generation, and more, claiming to have spoken to "people familiar with this issue."

As with the original report, much of Apple's AI focus is on Siri, the company's virtual assistant. For example, siri can generate summaries of notifications that take into account people, companies, calendar events, locations, dates, and more.

The biggest new information in this report is in generating AI with images. Apple is adding a clean-up feature to image editing, which allows users to remove objects from images using generated AI, similar to google Pixel's Magic Eraser.

Another new feature is called Generative Playground.1 Create and edit images using Apple's generation AI software. The original report states that you can use generative AI to create custom emojis in iMessage, but this report states that you can use Generative Playground to quickly create custom images in iMessage using app extensions.

Apple Notes has been reported to have several generation features, but it's not clear if it's text or images. Other note features include in-app audio recording, audio transcription, and a summary with LLM. There's also a rumored math note feature that uses AI within the app to create graphs and solve equations.

Here are some other AI and Siri features that are rumored to come to iOS 18

While Apple doesn't seem to be actively going to AI like Google and OpenAI, the company says that like iOS Apple's way, Apple is embracing some of the coolest ideas from other AI companies and using them. It seems to be adapting to the needs of users.
