With Acer SpatialLabs Eyes camera, you can capture and live stream in 3D — here's what you need to know

Acer is one of the few companies to pursue 3D screens in the SpatialLabs line-up and for a while I had a question on my mind: Where to go from here

Well, before Computex2024, as Acer has just announced the new Spati549SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera, we have no answer. I got the answer. So in this 4x2.6x0.9 inch weatherproof case, there are 8MP resolution per eye and 2 cameras (or eyes) on the front with electronic image stabilization (EIS). On top of that, Quick Snapper can take advantage of its automatic and touch focus features, but if you're a professional, you can ISO in fully manual mode, Sha

But the most interesting thing for me is the live streaming part of this. Content capture is good and all, but we see it everywhere. But with version SpatialLabs Player3.0, users of stereo cameras will be able to not only stream to YouTube and other platforms, but also take video calls in 3D such as Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

It goes without saying that all of these are compatible with Acer's growing line of Spatiallabs devices — laptops and monitors with 3D screens without glasses, to simulate stereoscopic 3D, to track your eyes, to use the camera over the display. You can do it.In my own experience of it, the technology works really well and produces depth and crisp 3D images on the display.

Look, I know it's easy to be skeptical about 3D.We had the whole thing around 3D TV and 3D cinema, but seemingly disappeared, so this time what will be different? Spatiallabs itself is competing with itself after all — Asus launched in 2023 a 2D laptop without glasses 3D, and then nixed the idea quickly in the face of incredibly meager sales.

So what extra dimension does Acer see that no one else can? It's rudimentary, dear readers - the impending explosion of VR and AR. You can already capture 3D content on your iPhone15Pro (named Spatial Video) and watch it on devices that support standards such as Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest3 and even Viture Pro XR glasses.

And, just like Apple, Acer makes sure that content captured in the eyes can be viewed on all of these devices. Moving to 3D live streaming and video calling is an interesting additional bet here, but to see exactly how this is adopted (if a bit suspicious), I'm curious. All eyes on 2024 Q3.
