Are you excited about Apple's AI capabilities? To get the most out of them, you need this iPhone

iOS18 is set to be a very big problem, and we can finally see some serious AI features being directed at iPhone users. Unfortunately, it sounds like some people are not able to make the most of these features. Because they may be limited to the iPhone15Pro or Pro Max.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, many of the AI features on Apple's new devices require the iphone15Pro (or later) to work. There is no doubt that this is due to the various hardware limitations associated with AI processing on the device. These features require a lot of resources, and doing it without relying on the cloud requires pretty hard-core technology to make it happen.

The iPhone15Pro and iPhone15Pro Max are the only devices with the latest A17Pro chipset, so it's not enough to have what you need. Only for iPhone15Pro. Even the IPhone15 and iPhone15Plus will run on the a2022 Bionic, which first debuted on the iPhone14Pro, so you'll miss it.

Apparently Apple can use this as a way to push people to upgrade their devices. It is rumored that everything will offer some kind of A15 chipset — either in the iphone16 Pro series or in the upcoming iPhone18. Also, iOS18 is likely to be launched shortly before the launch of the iPhone16, which could help Tom push people to ditch their old phones.

Gurman also claimed that iPads and Macs running the M1 chip or later would be able to take advantage of the features on the new device. It's been a few years since the M1 chip first debuted, but no doubt the majority of users will have a compatible device.

It's unclear what this means for the new M4 chip, which seems to be built specifically for AI. But there is no m4Mac, and only the M4iPad Pro exists, so that likely Apple could put its chips on the back burner, pending the announcement of new hardware rumored to happen by the end of the year. Many rumors have highlighted Apple's desire to keep AI processing on user devices for privacy and security. However, Gurman has previously reported on plans to include some kind of cloud connection, taking new steps to keep users and their data secure. So it will be interesting to see where the line is and how Apple distinguishes 2 types of AI processing.

NO DOUBT, ALONG WITH APPLE'S OTHER AI PLANS, YOU'LL BE HEARING ALL ABOUT THIS AT WWDC ON 6/10. According to Gurman, these plans also include revealing how APPLE will revamp Siri for the AI era, but you may have to wait until next year to experience the full effect.

We'll find more in a few weeks' time, and until then you can keep up to date with all the latest news and rumors on our WWDC2024 hub.
