Don't expect the new M4Mac Pro or Mac Studio this year — here's why

The launch of the M4iPad Pro is a big deal for Apple. The launch of the new chip is exciting enough, but the M4 promises to revolutionize the way Apple products work. NOT ONLY DOES THIS CHIP PROVIDE INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE AND INCREDIBLE BATTERY LIFE, IT ALSO REPRESENTS APPLE'S BIGGEST PUSH TO AI PROCESSING SO FAR.

Unsurprisingly, some of you are waiting for these chips to appear on your Mac, not your iPad. Some devices are expected to feature M4 chips later this year, such as the MacBook Pro and Mac mini, but Apple is unlikely to release a new version of either desktop machine this year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who doesn't want to hold his breath on the m4 version of Mac Studio or Mac Pro. Assuming everything is going as planned, we can see them from mid-2025, but not earlier than that. That said, the M2-powered machine, which debuted at WWDC in 2023, will go for at least 2 years without an update.

The good news is that Gurman believes that the only other Mac that won't get an M4 upgrade this year is the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air M3 was only available for a few months, so it's not a big surprise, and many will be upset if Apple upgrades it too soon.

However, this means things like the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and possibly iMac could be available on the M4 chip by the end of the year. It's not clear when they will be released, but Gurman added that you shouldn't see any new Mac hardware at WWDC2024.

It's not that surprising given that WWDC is a software-centric event for developers. There have been hardware announcements during keynote speeches in the past, but they are usually very rare. This year is no exception, and you should expect that at best the hardware story will focus on the Apple Vision Pro headset. In contrast to the announcement of new hardware, any appearance will probably hype the rumored international release.

The rest of the conference will focus on the upcoming upgrade of Apple devices. Given Apple's focus on AI, iOS18 will be the biggest announcement. We also hear about iPadOS18, macOS15, watchOS11, and visionOS2. The 6/10 WWDC2024 keynote will bring you all the biggest news.
