The Samsung Galaxy S24Ultra has only been on sale for a few months, but there have already been pretty serious rumors about its successor, the Galaxy S25Ultra. The latest rumor to hit the net is that Samsung may have ditched the phone's 4th camera lens and lost a 3x telephoto zoom in the process, but a rival leaker confused the issue by claiming that this is not the case.

@ISAAQUES81 claims that Samsung has already tested the camera on a prototype version of the Galaxy S25Ultra. Apparently this prototype has only 3 cameras: main, ultra-wide and periscope. The 3x telephoto lens is clearly discarded, and Samsung claims it believes it can offer the equivalent of 3x zoom on its main sensor.

The Galaxy S24 phone already employs a similar trick with 2x zoom and 10x zoom photos. You will crop high resolution images into small photos to make the target look bigger in the process. It can also mimic the appearance of a low-resolution camera in this way, as Apple and Samsung have shown, with a sufficiently high resolution and camera quality.

@ISAQUES81 also claims that the main camera has the same sensor size and resolution as the S24Ultra, but may be able to capture more light. The periscope lens is also said to have a fixed focal length between 4x to 5x zoom and 6x to 7x zoom. So, although it has a variable zoom, this leak is not the same hybrid lens that was rumored to come to the Galaxy S24Ultra, which is available on Sony Xperia1V and they claim that the phone still has 4 camera lenses, and Samsung "doesn't take the freedom to remove the 3x lens." But they also add that an upgraded version of the secondary telephoto lens is possible.

Ice Universe only promises to wait for "more specific and accurate news" to provide "absolutely accurate camera information" and will not go into additional details. In other words, stay tuned for more in the coming months.

It will take a while to find out what the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be equipped with, because the phone is likely not to be announced until May 1 next year at the earliest. Between now and sometime this summer there will be the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, and possibly the Galaxy Z Fold6FE and Galaxy S24FE.
