Gmail is getting a big AI boost from Gemini - here's all the new features

Google Workspace is looking to get more tools thanks to the company's AI model, Gemini. As detailed in today's Google I/O (5/14/1.5Pro), Gemini1.5Pro offers many tools to help you perform tasks quickly and parse information more easily.

One of the more important additions is the addition of Gemini1.5Pro to the side panel of workspace apps such as Documents, drives, slides, sheets and Gmail. This addition means longer context windows and more powerful AI tools. This panel also provides access to previously introduced tools such as "Help Me Write", "Help Me Organize", and "Help Me Visualize".

Workspace Labs and Gemini For Workspace Alpha users will soon get improved side panels. Businesses and consumers will be able to add next month through the Gemini For Workspace add-on and the Google One AI Premium plan.

The mobile version of Gmail with specific numbers to see a number of advantages from Gemini1.5Pro. The email summary feature allows you to go through a long email chain and summarize the main points. The summary may include deadlines, important tasks, and other important information.

Gmail's Smart reply feature gets a more contextualized reply, thanks to Gemini's favor. According to Google, smart replies will become more subtle and will begin to be pulled out of the context of those email conversations. You can also edit these replies.

Finally, Gmail is getting a Q&a feature that allows you to ask specific questions and get answers. For example, if you have a lot of messages about a contractor's bid, you can ask Gemini to provide an overview of that information. Basically, it's a way to save you from having to dive into another message to find that information for yourself.

Eventually, Google says that Gemini will be able to recognize receipts, invoices and other types of attachments and propose to organize and track them. This includes everything from typing in a spreadsheet to saving it to a folder in Google Drive. That capacity is coming later this year.

Workspace Labs users acquired the email overview feature this month, and on May 6, Gemini added features for Workspace users and Google One AI Premium subscribers. Similar to Gmail's Q&A feature, a context-aware smart reply for Workspace Lab users will arrive on May 7.

In addition, Google says it is expanding language support for more Gemini For Workspace features. Help me write for Gmail and the document will soon support Spanish and Portuguese. Google plans to add more languages in the future.
