iPad Pro and iPad Air2024 have hidden upgrades that iPad users have needed for years

Apple has made several upgrades to the ipad Pro2024 and iPad Air2024 compared to their predecessors. However, there is one important upgrade that apple did not mention during the launch: 1. You can finally check the battery status of your tablet via a dedicated menu.

As you can see in this screenshot, taken by Tom's Guide13-inch iPad Pro review unit, there is a new "Battery Health" screen under the Battery section of the Settings menu. It shows the health of your iPad's battery, its maximum capacity, how many full charge cycles it's going through, when it's made and first used

As the iPhone15 series provides, there's also a toggle to stop the battery charging at 80%. This is a good option for some users in case they do not mind extending the battery's operating life and connecting a little more often.

This is exciting news. The iPhone has already been on offer for quite a few years, as the iPad has so far lacked a battery health page. Instead, the current best way to check the battery status of an iPad is to connect the iPad to another device or use the analysis on the device to find the battery details hidden inside the boat load of irrelevant text.

But here we need to break the bad news — this feature does not seem to come to the old model. Updated to the same iOS17.5 software version as these new iPads, my 2021iPad Pro does not have a battery Health section. This was rumored to be the case before the release of these ipads, but we crossed our fingers that it would not be so. So it seems that for some reason Apple decided to keep this as a feature of the latest and most expensive models. Of course, this battery Health menu is not a good reason to upgrade to a new iPad by itself. But it's an extra sweetener alongside the iPad Air's new 13-inch size option and upgraded chipset, or the iPad Pro's OLED display, M4 chip and a new thinner design.

iPadOS18 can change the situation when it arrives. There are no rumors that we know about battery analysis appearing on more iPads, but we need to hear more at WWDC6 on May 2024.
