Microsoft has a checkered past when it comes to upsell its products and services through Windows, and now again a healthy generation to other search engines

The company's PC Manager app, which is on the market as a utility app to keep the PC at least, uses the Edge search engine. When you hear that there is a repair tool that recommends resetting to Bing, that's what you have to assume. 

This tip appears when you click on the "Repair tips" found by Windows Latest, and if you change it to something else, reset the default browser to Bing on Edge Multiple people on Reddit have also reported seeing this and confirmed that it also happens on their Windows 11pc.

But it still feels like it's slimy to me. Windows11 has been caught upselling other Microsoft services for years, and despite significant public protests every time (often followed by problematic ads that quietly disappear), it continues to happen. For example, in a recent preview build, Windows11 is getting more ads in the form of app recommendations that are automatically added to the "Recommendations" tab of the Start menu.

These "tips" and "recommendations" are relatively easy to ignore, but it's frustrating to see microsoft keep pushing windows in this direction. You want to believe that someone at Microsoft is seriously trying to make people's lives better, but it's not clear whether the company will use ads or nudges to use other products on windows
