iPhone16Pro Max can use a denser battery in a stainless steel case— this is why it's good news

According to a new report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone16Pro Max is a battery advantage over other iPhone16 models because its cells provide a higher energy density

Higher energy density means that the longer the battery capacity ma-hours in the same area, the more energy-intensive it is. It means higher capacity and hopefully longer battery life. But the higher the density, the longer the charging time at a given wattage also means. Unless Apple decides to increase the charging speed of the iPhone16Pro Max at the same time as the battery expands, it may take even longer to fill up the phone and it's not great news if you need a quick top-up.

Kuo also explains that high density means that the battery's operating temperature is high, leading to the second change Apple is obviously making to the iPhone16Pro Max battery - a stainless steel case that helps to cope with heat. Aluminum is the optimum solution for temperature, Kuo continues, but steel is better for durability and repairability.

If the new battery of the iPhone16Pro Max goes well, Kuo claims that all iPhone17 models next year will be able to use the technology. The Pro Max/Pro models introduced new features such as the Dynamic Island and the 48MP main camera before moving to the standard and Plus versions of the iPhone next year. This is not the first time I've heard about the iPhone16 series battery from leak-o-sphere. It is claimed that all iPhone16S, except the IPhone16Plus, can get larger batteries and in some cases can last more than 30 hours of use. We have also heard before about the use of a new metal shell and battery connector to improve the cooling of the Iphone16Pro model, which is somewhat in line with what Kuo told us.
