The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is scheduled for early May 7, and we have already heard a lot about what Samsung has to offer this year. But there's always time for details to leak, and now it sounds like the phone is trying to get a major display upgrade.

According to Elec, Samsung plans to utilize a thicker version of ultra-thin display glass (UTG) for the z Flip6's foldable screen. The difference is only 20 microns, going from 30 microns to 50, but this is expected to harden the glass surface and reduce the wrinkles on the display.

A small crease is definitely something we can all ride on. No one likes to see a huge split crease in the middle of the phone's screen, even if it's foldable. Given that many other foldable phone makers have made progress toward reducing that wrinkle almost nothing with flip phones, it's time for Samsung to finally do something about the Galaxy Z Flip fold as well.

With increased surface strength, the Z Flip6 will be more durable, but it may not be as durable as the Galaxy S24Ultra with Gorilla Glass Armor screens. Given that UTG is not known for its strength, increasing its durability is welcome.

Elec also claims that the Z Flip6 may have the same water drop hinge as the Z Flip5, but the Galaxy Z Flip7 could change things. According to the outlet, Samsung is likely to introduce a new hinge to flipable next year and a new "UTG structure" to further reduce display folds.

UTG, which obviously relies on the new hinge, may be thicker for two years running too. New hinges and we don't get the same foldable glass as this year's models. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6, along with the Galaxy Z Fold6, is expected to be released from early May 7 to 7/10.

We expect the new flip phone to feature a larger cover display, a Snapdragon 8GEN3 chipset in all regions, a 50MP main camera, and a full suite of Galaxy AI features.
