Season 2 of "Andor": everything we know so far

Of all the Disney Plus Star Wars shows, "Andor" has consistently received the highest ratings. It has been very popular with viewers and has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards.

All of this has raised high expectations for the show's second season, which will also be its final one. Showrunner Tony Gilroy always planned for "Andor" to end with a second season, which will take place just before the main character Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, appears in the Star Wars film Rogue One. Most details about the second season of [Andor] are more tightly sealed than the Death Star blueprint, but here's what we know so far. [The scheduled release date has been pushed back further due to production delays caused by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes; production on the 12-episode second season began in November 2022 and continued partially after the WGA strike began, but in July 2023 actors were interrupted when they joined the writers' strike demanding fair and equitable treatment from the studio.

Production resumed in January 2024 and ended on February 9, 2024, as only a fraction of the season had yet been filmed. Showrunner Tony Gilroy previously estimated that post-production for the season would take about a year, with the second season premiering in the first quarter of 2025.

Similarly, no official cast list has been announced for the second season of Andor, and characters from the first season may only return in limited roles, if at all. Diego Luna will once again lead the cast, and key characters, including Luten Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård, are certain to return.

It is unclear if fan-favorite guest stars like Forest Whitaker as Star Wars lead Saw Gerrera and Andy Serkis as prisoner Kino Roy will return, but compared to other Star Wars series that rely on franchise easter eggs There is a good chance that even "Andor," which is less likely to feature a familiar face. Benjamin Bratt has been cast in an unannounced role and could play a well-known Star Wars character or a completely unknown one.

For now, here's what we expect the main cast of "Andor" Season 2 to look like.

No specific plot for "Andor" Season 2 has been announced, nor has the teaser video shown at the April 2023 Star Wars Celebration. Reports from the event show Andor on various undercover missions and eventually reuniting with Bix Kayleen. An emboldened Cyril Khan continues to pursue Andor, while rebels Ver Saasa and Cinta Kaz may be cornered behind enemy lines.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy previously said that the second season will cover four years of Andor's life, with a big time jump every few episodes to "Rogue One. 'When we come back later, it will literally be like Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And then you jump a year, and it's four or five days, and then you jump another year, and then another four or five days, and then another year, and then another four or five days," he told Deadline.

Although he did not elaborate, Stellan Skarsgård recently told Total Film that he believes fans will be satisfied with where the season goes: "It ends where 'Rogue One' begins, so that's where it's going. It ends where 'Rogue One' starts, so that's where it's going to go," he said. The prequels were satisfying to me because they felt like 'Star Wars' for adults, the society they live in is more realistic and complex, and you get a sense of the entrapment of the fascist regime. I think we're in for a good season."
