If you are anything like us, you are probably reviewing the first "House of Dragons" season in anticipation of the season two premiere of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. And during this rewatch, I was surprised to see that one of the memorable scenes from the show's first season, a scene in episode 8 between Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his brother, the ailing King Viserys (Paddy Considine), featured an important ad-lib by Smith.

In episode 8 of the prequel series, the sick and bedridden Viserys marches to the throne room with all his strength to defend the succession of his daughter Rainila (Emma Darcy) and her children from the relentless Greens, and finally sits on the Iron Throne. In this scene, Viserys' crown slips off his head, and in an unscheduled but characterful move, the daemon played by Smith retrieves the crown and places it on his brother's head.

Geeta Patel, the director of the episode, discussed the filming of this moment in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "There was a scene in the throne room where the daemon helps Viserys up the steps to the throne. First, a soldier came up to Viserys, and Viserys shook him off and said: 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He has pride. And then another guy comes along and he thinks he's a soldier, but he's actually my brother.

"During that shoot, I think it was rehearsal, the first day, the crown fell off Paddy's head, and Matt picked it up and we just kept shooting. We didn't stop shooting," Patel continued. 'We had this moment of discovery. The three of us got together and said, 'We felt this. It felt like a turning point in our relationship. It was just a silent moment."

Patel revealed: "That accident, that crown falling, was a very heavy moment, at least for me, and a turning point in the story that began in the pilot. This evidence of the brothers' bond was made even more poignant when Viserys fell ill at the end of the episode.

It is already known that Daemon is adamantly supportive of the right of his wife's niece, Rainaila, to succeed her father on the Iron Throne.
