A reboot of the Nokia 3210 with a snake motif?

If you were using a cell phone 25 years ago, chances are good that you owned a Nokia 3210. This beloved phone was remarkable for its time and was equipped with Snake, still remembered as one of the most memorable cell phone games.

Now, according to a new leak from a now-deleted listing from Finnish retailer Giganti (via NokiaMob), the nostalgic feature phone appears to be coming back through HMD-owned Nokia. This comes after HMD posted on X in March with the hashtag "Nokiaphones" and "An icon returns this May."

The returning icon is the Nokia 3210, which makes sense since it is one of the company's most popular phones, with approximately 160 million units sold since 1999.

The specifications of the Nokia 3210 re-release are not a complete reproduction of the original, as there are some upgrades. According to leaks, it will have a 2.4-inch QVGA color screen, whereas the original had a smaller 1.5-inch backlit monochrome graphic LCD display. The first generation did not have a camera, but the new model has a 2MP f/2.8 shooter on the back and is capable of 720p video recording.

According to Giganti's listing, it has a 1,450mAh battery, which should last for several days; it also has LTE connectivity, so it probably won't last for weeks or months like the original.

Of course, people miss the phones of the past, but there is no guarantee that they will actually ditch their smartphones in favor of a basic feature phone. After all, we have become accustomed to the features offered by modern smartphones. Sure, Nokia seems to be upgrading some specs, adding color displays, cameras, and LTE, but they will still fall short in features compared to the best phones you can buy today.

One saving grace is the retro pricing of €89 (~$96). It puts it at a point where users can pick it up as a fun nostalgia device, not necessarily designed as a replacement for a full-featured smartphone.

The phone is supposed to be announced on May 8 (ship date is May 15), so we should find out all the official details soon. This leak is specific to Europe, but hopefully HMD will announce sales in other regions as well. This comes after HMD recently announced that it will produce its own brand of HMD phones, which are expected to be available in the U.S. shortly.
