New Trailer for "Deadpool and Wolverine" - This Film May Upset Marvel

The first "Deadpool and Wolverine" trailer, released at the February Super Bowl, reintroduced audiences to "The Man with the Mouth," but showed only a little bit about Wolverine's return. Fortunately, for the first time since 2017's "Logan," a new trailer has been released that offers a closer look at Wolverine in action.

The 2.5-minute trailer also hints at the plot of this new film, and there are plenty of references to other Marvel films. Check it out below:

The trailer begins with Deadpool approaching a grumpy-looking Wolverine in a bar where, according to the bartender, he is "not welcome". After inviting him to "go with him" in the nicest way possible, Deadpool pulls a gun on him and threatens to shoot him in the face if he doesn't reconsider. At this point, Wolverine leans in to the gun against his temple, implying that the hero's mental state is split.

"You were the X-Men. You were X-Man," Deadpool says late in the trailer, trying to get Logan back in the game.

Elsewhere in the trailer, "Succession" star Matthew Macfadyen reappears as a member of the multiverse-spanning Time Variance Authority that first appeared in "Loki". In a brief appearance, he explains that "this Wolverine" has disappointed the entire universe, perhaps hinting that this version of the famous character is not what fans are used to seeing in previous "X-Men" series.

As predicted, the trailer concludes with action scenes and a violence-filled sizzle reel, with plenty of homages to other Marvel films such as "Ant-Man" and "Doctor Strange," to Madonna's iconic anthem, "Like a Prayer" Matching. There is also what appears to be a fairly overt homage to "Max Max," set to Madonna's iconic anthem "Like a Prayer."

"Deadpool & Wolverine" opens July 26.
