The "Alien" TV show - everything we know so far

Two projects are in the works: the movie "Alien: Romulus" and an unnamed television show. Fans of this beloved franchise will experience more stories about the fearsome Xenomorph and the hapless characters destined to face the creature next.

This new "Alien" TV show has generated a lot of interest since Disney first announced it in 2020. Not much was revealed about the plans for the series, but recently a small trailer regarding current developments and who will be in the show has been released.

"Alien: Romulus" will launch the franchise for a new generation and help pave the way for the TV show's eventual success. The film is a cross between "Alien" and "Aliens," while the series attempts to bring the iconic creature back home. Yes, that's right, back to Earth. This concept alone was originally planned for "Alien 3," but after it fell through, it was rekindled for the modernized show.

Here are some juicy details about the upcoming "Alien" TV show and what we can expect.

The "Alien" TV show is the first story set on Earth about 70 years from where we are now. In other words, it will be nearly 2100, and we can expect to see major changes in civilization and how it operates. It will be interesting to see how the Xenomorphs react in such an environment.

According to Deadline's April 19 report, the upcoming show is set 30 years before the first "Alien" film and deals with "the emergence of the story's infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the competition between the companies to create new android life forms."

The Weyland-Yutani Corporation is a rogue corporation that sacrifices human decency for profit instead of following basic corporate morals. In the movies, they are believed to have always been one step ahead in space colonization and research.

Streaming network FX said: "Expect scary thrills set on Earth in the not-so-distant future."

Amazingly, we already have a big list of key cast members. Of course, as the show is further updated, especially in the trailer, there is still a possibility that more cast members will be added.

Here are the currently confirmed cast:

As of April 19, Sandra Ethensindiver ("Foundation") has also been added to the cast list; according to Deadline, she will be a "hybrid, a child with the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult superhuman with the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult."

Filming has also begun in Thailand (on April 19) with Sandra Yisensindiver, and filming will reportedly continue through the summer of 2025 next year. Thus, the planned release date for the series could be late 2025, but this depends on the development process and the number of episodes to be filmed.

Once marketing for this "Alien" TV show begins, we will update again with new filming updates and estimated release dates for trailers and teasers.

Disney has confirmed that this "Alien" TV show is being produced as an FX original production and will be available for streaming on Hulu in the US. Those living outside the U.S. can watch the series on Star, another Disney Plus co-operative network created to stream mature content.

Additional streaming platforms may be added as details of the next installment become available.

Noah Hawley is the creator, showrunner, director, and writer of the upcoming "Alien" TV show. He has also worked on hits such as "Fargo" and "Legion," and is sure to create another popular series, especially in terms of expanding the "Alien" universe. It has not been confirmed whether he will direct the entire first season or just a few episodes.

Ridley Scott, the original director of "Alien," will also join Hawley as executive producer. Ridley Scott is also involved in "Alien: Romulus," and both films are expected to be faithful and accurate to the original franchise.

Production companies involved in the series include 20th Television, FX, and Scott Free Productions.

Dana Gonzalez, who also worked on "Fargo" and "Legion," will handle cinematography alongside Hawley. Production design will be handled by Andy Nicholson, who has worked on such impressive films as "Gravity" and "Captain Marvel," making the film visually appealing.
