Prime Video's new romantic comedy beat Netflix with a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rudy Mancuso is the latest online personality to turn his talents to filmmaking, and the former Vine star and YouTuber seems to have hit a home run with his first swing after Bo Burnham. His new Prime Video release is getting rave reviews.

"Música" debuted on Amazon's streaming service last week (April 4) and while it has received very positive critical reviews, it has yet to appear on Prime Video's most-watched list. This is very disappointing, as it suggests that the film is not getting the viewership it deserves for its quality.

If you are looking for something new to watch this week, "Música" is one to watch. This Prime Video original beats even many of Netflix's new films. If you want to know what this musical romantic comedy is all about, click here.

"Música" is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy by uber-talented Internet personality Rudy Mancuso. Rudy Mancuso co-wrote, directed, and stars in this delightful film, playing a fictionalized version of himself.

This film version of Rudy is a Newark street performer who suffers from a phenomenon called synesthesia, in which he experiences everyday sounds such as car horns and slamming doors as music in his head.

If that wasn't enough, Rudy is trying to finish college, fulfill his mother's request that he settle down, and navigate his Brazilian heritage. Rudy has a lot on his plate.

Rudy's life, which is quite complicated even by itself, becomes even more hectic when he meets the beautiful and clever Isabella (Camila Mendes, Mancuso's actual girlfriend).

This new Prime Video release debuted to impressive scores from critics. It currently has a 96% rating on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is currently an impressive 90%.

These RT scores are particularly noteworthy as trumping several leading original films that landed on Netflix this year, including "Rift" (29%), "Spaceman" (50%), "Damsel" (56%), and "Scoop" (76%). In short, in the battle for the best new streaming movie offerings in 2024, Prime Video managed to score points against its biggest rivals.

Carlos Aguilar of Variety said that "Música" earned Mancuso "filmmaking stripes," suggesting that his next film could be even better now that the creative has "brought his origin story to the screen." The critic also called the musical scene a "whimsical whirlwind."

Lovia Gyarkye of The Hollywood Reporter was also impressed, noting that "even as the story veers into clichéd territory, the aesthetic of 'Musica' remains loose and kinetic, an exciting reflection of the creator's spirit." Amy Nicholson of The New York Times noted that "Mancuso packs all of his passions into the film," which she described as "deliberately overwhelming."

"Despite a few loose ends and missteps, there is much to savor in Mancuso's feature debut," said Monica Castillo of RogerEbert.com.

"Musica" is a vibrant, heartwarming romantic comedy that looks almost certain to make Prime Video's best movies list.

If you're looking for something relatively lighthearted to watch this week, it's a perfect fit. It is also a great introduction to the wide-ranging talents of Rudy Mancuso.
