Google's AI Magic Editor is coming to the iPhone - here's what it can do

Google's AI editing features are pretty amazing, but it has been confirmed that they will no longer be exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One. according to a post on the Google blog, starting May 15, many of these AI editing features will be available on more devices, including the iPhone Google Photos will include.

In its announcement post, Google specifically mentions Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Blur Removal, and Portrait Light. You may remember that some of these features are already available in Google Photos on non-Pixel devices. However, Google has now removed restrictions on most of these features.

The exception is Magic Editor, an AI image editing tool that allows users to move objects and process images at will. Generative AI can fill in the blanks left by your tinkering and create something much faster and easier than learning how to use Photoshop.

The Magic Editor is fairly new, and Google limits access to 10 free saves per month. If you need more storage than this, you will need to purchase a Pixel device or subscribe to a premium Google One subscription with a minimum of 2TB of cloud storage. These start at $100 per year.

A full list of available features is available on Google's support site and includes many features. These features include photo blur removal, color pop, HDR effects, portrait blur, and more. Unfortunately, aside from Magic Editor, many of the premium AI features like Audio Magic Eraser and Best Take are still exclusive to the Pixel 8 series.

The only real caveat to these features is that you have to have the right phone. According to Google, the actual features available may depend on the device you have. But as long as you have at least 3GB of RAM and are running Android 8, iOS 15, ChromeOS 118 or higher, some of them are available.

The feature will begin rolling out globally on May 15, just as Google I/O 2024 is expected to take place, and we will no doubt learn more about Google's plans for AI capabilities on Android in general and on Pixel phones We can expect to learn more about Google's plans for AI capabilities in Android in general and in Pixel phones in particular
