iPhone SE 4 Specs Leaked, Reveals Large OLED Display, "AI Photography," and Other Upgrades

Apple's least expensive iPhone still ranks on our list of best budget phones more than two years after its release, which is why the iPhone SE 4 has attracted so much attention. Even though the latest leaks suggest that the fourth-generation iPhone SE will be released in 2025, major upgrades have been made to make it more attractive.

A new leak has surfaced on Twitter purporting to be iPhone SE 4 specs. The leaker, Nguyen Phi Hung, reveals that the specs are a significant upgrade over the current iPhone SE (2022), and given that the mid-range space is defined by new phones like the Nothing Phone 2a, OnePlus 12R, and Pixel 7A Given that the mid-range is being defined by new phones like the Nothing Phone 2a, OnePlus 12R, and Pixel 7A, Apple cannot afford to fall behind against its main rivals.

Presumably, the new iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED screen that will greatly improve the display's appearance; it is said to be a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Based on current specs, the iPhone will be slightly larger, but the 60Hz refresh rate is somewhat disappointing. Other phones in this lower price range have better refresh rates, like the Galaxy A35's 120Hz refresh rate.

The device is expected to have a glass front and back, avoiding the ceramic shield Apple uses on other iPhones. For comparison, Hung states that the front resembles the previously rumored iPhone 13. The back of the iPhone SE 4, however, will look like the iPhone XR, as it has a single camera.

Speaking about the camera, it is rather interesting that it supports 1080p cinematic mode and is a single camera. The current iPhone SE (2022) does not do this, but other iPhones use the main camera and the ultra-wide camera to identify people from the background, thus making the background out of focus. We suspect they will lean on new technology and AI support for this, which we expect will be a big part of iOS 18. Hang further clarified that the iPhone SE 4 will feature Smart HDR, AI Photography, and Portrait Mode, but will not support Night Mode for some reason.

Internally, the new SE 4 will feature an upgraded A16 Bionic chipset and Snapdragon X70 modem. This processing power should be a big boost for the phone, but it also helps that the RAM will get a major upgrade as well. In fact, leaked specs show 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up from the current SE's 4GB of RAM.

As for storage options, there are 128GB and 512GB to choose from. The base option is a much needed jump over the pathetic 64GB of storage offered by the current iPhone SE (2022) - while the 512GB would serve storage-hungry users well. For some reason, the 256GB version is omitted, so the price difference between the two storage options is a concern.

Look, if all this is true, the SE would be quite an upgrade over the current 3rd generation iPhone SE. Hung has previously leaked benchmark scores for Apple's supposed A18 Pro chip, with just an OLED screen and additional RAM, It would be a great budget phone. We expect the new model to be priced similar to the current version going up from $429 to $579. However, there is always the possibility of a price increase.
