Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) is a gay Miami club owner whose son Val (Dan Futterman) has just become engaged to his girlfriend Barbara Keely (Calista Flockhart). Val tries to get Armando to meet Barbara's parents, but they are prejudiced against the LGBTQ+ community and are Republicans. Armand pretends to be straight, hiding his relationship with his lifelong partner, Albert (Nathan Lane), so that their son's engagement can go off without a hitch. Of course, as Armand soon finds out, this is easier said than done.

Car thief Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) steals 50 cars for a California gang. He finds himself in a bind when he leads the police to where his crew keeps the cars. He fails to complete his mission and his brother Randall "Memphis Rains" (Nicolas Cage) steals 50 cars in exchange for Kip's life. But he won't do it alone - he must get his old gang back to complete the mission, all the while working against rival gangs and the police.
