Google Chrome Natively Supports Snapdragon X Elite Laptops - Should Intel and AMD Be Nervous?

Chrome is the default browser for the majority of Windows users who fight Microsoft's desperate prompts to use Edge in order to install Google's browser.

But with the Snapdragon X Elite laptop on the horizon and the big Arm revolution in Windows finally happening, it's time for the browser to become more native than x86. a full version of Chrome optimized for Arm-compatible Windows PCs A full version of Chrome optimized for Windows PCs compatible with Arm will be released this week.

Of course, Arm versions of the browser have been available for Arm-based operating systems, including Android, macOS, and Chrome OS, for some time. Chrome's open source code base, Chromium, has also been used by Microsoft's Edge to create an Arm compatible browser for Windows.

However, this was the first official release from Google prior to Qualcomm's major foray into the laptop field. Along with this, and the promise that Windows games "should already work" thanks to x64 emulation, it is clear that Intel and AMD are a bit nervous now.

"The new version of Google Chrome will help solidify Snapdragon X Elite's role as the premier platform for Windows computing starting in mid-2024," Qualcomm Inc. president and CEO Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm Inc. "As we enter the age of the AI PC, we can't wait to see Chrome shine by leveraging the powerful Snapdragon X Elite system.

So what else can we learn from Chrome's inclusion in a Snapdragon-powered laptop: benchmarks leaked by Tom's Hardware show that Chrome is faster than AMD's top-end APUs. And if these numbers are to be believed, its multi-core performance is likely to squeeze even Apple's M3 MacBook Air.

Qualcomm is also very confident in its NPU performance for AI workloads. Dom McGuire, CMO of Qualcomm, told Tom's Guide, "We can support over 70 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI performance across all three different processor units."

We can only see for ourselves the specifics of what new laptops will have this chipset and what level of performance and energy efficiency they will have.
