WWDC 2024 will be held on June 10 - Apple prepares for its biggest AI push ever with iOS 18

Spring has sprung and it's time for Apple to announce when its annual developer conference will take place this summer.

And as planned, Apple has announced that its WWDC 2024 event will be held on June 10 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. And AI is likely to be a major focus of the event.

If the company is true to its custom, the first day of WWDC 2024 will open with a keynote speech that usually begins at 10:00 am PT / 1:00 pm ET / 6:00 pm BST.

What will be different is that Apple will be speaking aggressively about AI. The keynote is expected to be live streamed via Apple's YouTube channel as well as Apple devices like Apple TV, and the AI-powered Apple App Store will likely be a key topic.

In case there were any doubts about Apple's AI push, the SVP of Worldwide Marketing posted the following on X: "I've been a fan of Apple for years. It will be absolutely incredible!"

Since WWDC is usually the place where Apple talks about upcoming software releases, this year we will hear not only about iOS 18, but also about iPadOS 17 and last year's macOS Sonoma follow-up. Also, according to Apple's announcement, they will talk about the "evolution of watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS," so expect to hear about the new features of the recently released Apple Vision Pro.

However, while some are focusing on where Apple is headed with its first headset, there are also analyst reports suggesting that Apple's AI app store may be introduced at WWDC 2024. Specifically, Ben Reitzes of Melius Research recently told CNBC that in a move to integrate the growing number of mobile apps with "AI" capabilities, at WWDC 2024, "(Apple) will be introducing this new App Store, a way to work with AI, the App Store should begin laying the groundwork for how AI apps can be purchased through it."

Whether or not Apple goes all in on the AI section of the App Store, we can be fairly certain that we will hear a company spokesperson utter the phrase "AI" at least a zillion times on stage this June.

iOS 18 in particular is touted to be Apple's biggest iOS update ever, as Apple is leaning on generative AI tools across its apps. AI features could be added to everything from the Photos app and Notes to email. And Apple needs to keep up with the AI capabilities of Samsung's Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy. There are even reports that Apple might partner with Google Gemini on the iPhone, but nothing is confirmed.

We'll have to watch live to count exactly how many, and Apple has yet to share full details on how to stream WWDC 2024 from the comfort of your couch. Fortunately, some of the Tom's Guide team will be attending in person, but for the rest of us, stay tuned for our guide on how to live stream the WWDC 2024 keynote and more details as they become available!
