iOS 18 May Not Feature Apple Chatbots - But It's Not All Bad News

iOS 18 is rumored to be a giant leap forward for iPhone AI, and there are countless rumors about what generative AI features Apple has planned. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that we will see an Apple chatbot later this year.

The news comes from Apple tipster Mark Gurman, who claims that Apple will not be adding its own chatbot to iOS 18. However, this does not mean that there will not be some sort of chatbot in the software. Gurman claims that Apple is negotiating with Google, OpenAI, Baidu, and others for exactly this purpose.

We have already heard several rumors that Apple may bring Google Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT to the iPhone later this year. However, this is probably the first time that an Apple-made chatbot has been completely ruled out for iOS 18.

There's no guarantee that things won't change between now and the 2024 WWDC, but Garman usually has a pretty good idea of what's going on behind Apple's closed doors. The question is how long it will take Apple to develop its own chatbot for future versions of iOS.

In the past, Apple has proven that it would rather not rely on third parties to provide its own services. That is why there are apps like Apple Maps and Apple Music, rather than keeping iPhone users dependent on things like Google Maps and Spotify. In other words, it's not a matter of "if" Apple will create its own chatbot, but "when" it can be released.

But chatbot or not, Gurman confirmed that Apple's upcoming WWDC keynote will focus heavily on AI and the company's ongoing strategy, noting that WWDC2024 is "Absolutely Incredible" and that the conference Although it was clear from the announcement of the start of the conference that this was not the case.

We have already heard that iOS 18 will feature some form of generative AI, but it is not clear what form that will take. iOS 18 is said to be the "biggest update yet," and AI will play a major role in that AI will play a major role in it. Siri in particular is overdue for an upgrade. In other words, homemade chatbot or not, iOS 18 is going to be very big.

We'll have to wait for WWDC 2024, which opens on June 10, to learn more. But until then, you can keep up with the latest news and rumors at the iOS 18 and WWDC 2024 hubs.
