Hulu Officially Launches on Disney Plus - Here's What You Need to Know

Users who subscribe to both Disney Plus and Hulu will have more convenient options for watching their favorite shows starting today. This follows the launch of a limited beta for select users in December.

For those who subscribe to a Disney bundle or subscribe to both Disney Plus and Hulu with the same email address, the Disney Plus app will now feature all of Hulu's content along with existing Disney Plus content.

There are no price changes associated with this new integration, with bundled plans still starting at $9.99/month (including ads) and Disney Plus and Hulu standalone each starting at $7.99/month.

This integration will be convenient for subscribers who are already interested in both services, and will not make a noticeable difference for those who only subscribe to Hulu, as the integration will not work in both directions. For users who subscribe to the Disney bundle and are used to having separate apps, an adjustment period may be necessary, especially for parents who do not want their young children to accidentally (or perhaps not accidentally) watch, for example, "Murder at the End of the World" or "The Great There may not be Such users would need to adjust the parental controls in their individual profiles to allow new programs to be viewed.

Those who only subscribe to Disney Plus and are not interested in Hulu can look forward to what the press release calls "expanded upsell options across additional devices."

This is the latest step in a long evolution that began when Disney acquired Hulu co-owner 21st Century Fox in 2019, taking majority ownership of the service. Disney recently acquired the remaining stake in Hulu from Comcast, paving the way for the service to be fully integrated into Disney Plus. since Hulu is a U.S.-only service, Hulu programming can already be viewed on Disney Plus in other countries. Hulu is a long-term, independent brand Whether Hulu will remain an independent brand and service in the long term remains to be seen, but Disney paid dearly for the privilege of possibly just shutting it down.

For now, Hulu is surviving, and it has also influenced the branding of Disney Plus, with the service's signature blue logo color being changed to a blue-green that the company calls "Aurora," integrating Hulu's green. There is also a new Disney Plus "orchestral mnemonic" (the music heard when the app is launched) by Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson. The ultimate goal, of course, is to get more subscribers to pay more money.
