New on Prime Video and Freevee in April 2024 - All the New Shows and Movies You Need to See

This month is a new month for Amazon Prime Video and its free ad-supported sibling service Freevee, meaning both streaming services will be refreshed with new content in April 2024.

This month is full of can't-miss movies and can't-miss TV shows. Unlike some of its biggest streaming rivals, Prime also offers a selection of live sports, including big matches in the National Women's Soccer League.

The star of the month is unquestionably Fallout. Prime Video's small-screen adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic RPG video game franchise. It will be a hilarious journey of a sheltered survivor's search for his missing father in a radiation-contaminated wasteland. All eight episodes will be available on Prime Video on April 11.

Additionally, if you're planning a movie night in April, Prime Video is offering the original films "Música" and "How to Date Billy Walsh" as well as one of my favorite films of 2023, the Academy Award-winning comedy "The Holdovers." I want to keep my Prime Video subscription active because it is available. [So here's a rundown of all the new content coming to Prime Video and Freevee in April 2024, as well as some of my picks.

"Música" is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy by Rudy Mancuso. The film is Mancuso's feature film directorial debut; the internet musician also co-wrote the screenplay. Set in Newark, New Jersey, the film follows aspiring creators, a man and a woman, who suffer from a synesthesia that causes sensory sensitivity, as they try to cope with the pressures of love, family, and Brazilian tradition. From the looks of the fun trailer, this could be a breakout success story for Prime Video.

Available on Prime Video on April 4

A lively and whimsical teenage rom-com, "How to Date Billy Walsh" centers on two childhood best friends, Amelia (Charitra Chandran) and Archie (Sebastian Croft) are the central characters in the film. As expected, Archie is in fact secretly in love with his best friend, but just as he is about to pluck up the courage to tell her, an American transfer student, Billy Walsh (Tanner Buchanan), shows up and catches Amelia's eye. Archie is determined to keep them apart and will do everything in his power to sabotage their romance, but he may lose his closest friend in the process.

Available on Prime Video starting April 5

Based on the best-selling RPG game series of the same name, "Fallout" is a sci-fi drama set in a retro-futuristic world devastated by nuclear war. Centuries later, the radiation-infested wasteland has become a lawless zone, with a few lucky survivors living in sealed bunkers called underground vaults. But Lucy (Ella Purnell) is forced to leave the safety of the vaults to search for her missing father, and emerges into a post-apocalyptic L.A. filled with dangerous wanderers and wastelanders. We are in the golden age of video game adaptations, and hopefully "Fallout" can continue that chain of events.

Available on Prime Video beginning April 11

"THEM" is a horror anthology series, and this second season will feature new characters and a new storyline; it will still be set in L.A., but this time it will be set in 1991 ("THEM: Covenant"), and it will be a new storyline for the first season. THEM: Covenant" is set in the 1950s) and follows LAPD Homicide Detective Dawn Reeve as she investigates the brutal murder of a foster mother. But as Dawn gets closer to the truth, something evil begins to haunt her, threatening not only her own life but also that of her family. In addition to a fresh cast including Pam Grier, Luke James, and Joshua J. Williams, Deborah Ayorinde, who played the lead role in the first season, reprises her role as the new main character Dawn.

Available on Prime Video beginning April 25

Set at an exclusive New England prep school, Paul Giamatti plays a very grumpy professor who is forced to stay on campus over the vacations to chaperone students who have nowhere else to go. Unexpectedly, they hit it off with a troubled burnout (Dominic Cessa) and spend a memorable holiday season together, developing a true friendship and breaking the ice. This Alexander Payne film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and won Best Supporting Actress for Davine Joy Randolph's powerful performance as the school cook. Holdover is a hilarious, heartfelt, must-see film."
