5 Coolest Cars Seen at the 2024 New York Auto Show

There has never been a more exciting time in the EV space: not only are EV-first brands pushing the limits of what cars can do, but nearly every major manufacturer is introducing some version of an electric car (or at the very least a hybrid).

We were able to check out some of the new EVs for 2024 at the New York Auto Show (NYIAS) this week. The Javits Convention Center was lined with all kinds of vehicles, from luxury to mainstream manufacturers.

That said, some EVs caught our eye more than others. Here are some of the coolest cars we saw at the New York Auto Show. [The Genesis Neorn Concept is a passenger's dream EV SUV. Coach doors and automatic side steps open to reveal an oasis of entertainment covered in purple leather and wood paneling. With swivel front seats and plush captain's seats in the back, four people can comfortably ride in the car.

And then there are the displays. First up front is a large central dashboard that seems to give you all the information you need while you're behind the wheel. I'm not sure how practical this setup is, but it certainly looks sophisticated. The same goes for the roof-mounted curved screens, one angled to each of the passenger seats.

Since this is only a concept, it is unlikely that we will ever see the Neolun on the road. However, Genesis has been known to adopt certain ideas from concept to actual cars that can be purchased.

Hyundai hopes the high-performance treatment of the Ioniq 5 N will satisfy everyone's inner race car driver, but it comes at a cost: the 641-horsepower all-wheel-drive machine starts at $67,475, making it Hyundai's most expensive car to date.

In return, it comes with a cool drift mode, an e-shift feature that replicates the feel of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the ability to simulate the sound of a gas engine. And with checkerboard rear lights, blocky headlights, and bright stripes adorning the lower doors, the Ioniq 5 N looks ready to hit the starting line.

Polestar's electric SUV coupe is gearing up for a U.S. launch starting at $56,300. The Polestar 4 has a range of over 300 miles and a 102 kWh battery, and the company promises it will be the fastest car in its lineup to date. It has a maximum output of 544 hp and is said to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

A distinguishing feature of the Polestar 4 is the absence of a rear window. This is for the convenience of rear seat passengers and allows the driver to see what is going on behind him or her via a camera image displayed in the rearview mirror. We noticed something like at least a dozen cameras on our tour of the car's exterior, so in theory, drivers should still be able to see what they need to.

Kia's EV9 is a boxy-looking, three-row, midsize electric SUV with a range of over 300 miles in some models. Roughly the same size as the brand's popular Telluride model, the EV9 feels like a step up for Kia with its friendly 12.3-inch infotainment screen and attractive finishes. Kia uses a number of sustainable materials throughout the interior cabin.

We especially like the spacious cargo and flanks. Even when parked at the New York Auto Show, it looked ready to pack up for a family road trip.

The VW van came home. Volkswagon ID.Buzz returns to the iconic van's retro design, fun colors, nostalgic exterior, and spacious cabin, updated for the modern family. It seats up to seven passengers and features a folding table, massage chairs, and a full entertainment system. The range is estimated at 260 miles, and Volkswagen says the battery will go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. It is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2024, with prices starting around $50,000.
