Tidal has added features that Spotify and Apple Music should mimic.

Tidal may not be as popular as Apple Music or Spotify, but it offers some great new features not found on those platforms.

Tidal released an update earlier this week that allows users to share universal links to songs and albums. The move means that Tidal users can share their favorite new songs with Spotify and Apple Music users, and the recipient can open the song on their favorite streaming platform.

"Now, with just a couple of taps, your friends can play the TIDAL track, artist, or album you shared on their favorite streaming service.

Tidal did not say which services its universal link would be compatible with. However, a Reddit user tested it with Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music and found that it works on all of these platforms; Tidal said it will add more platforms over time.

Overall, this is an outstanding move by Tidal. One of the biggest problems facing music streaming services is that it is nearly impossible to share songs with others unless everyone is on the same platform. And with so many choices, people prefer certain streaming services for different reasons. In fact, it is unlikely that Apple Music users will suddenly choose Spotify, or that Spotify users will switch to Apple Music. With Tidal's features, however, it does not matter which platform a user prefers.

The question is whether Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, or any other platform will follow Tidal's lead.

In any case, Tidal's innovative features add a flourish to an otherwise outstanding music streaming service. In fact, Tom's Guide reviewed Tidal earlier this month and gave it a coveted five-star rating thanks to its outstanding sound quality and excellent curated content.

Our review revealed the real goodness of Tidal: "The perks that make Tidal the best music app aren't just the high fidelity; they're the quality of the music.
