While the Oura Ring is the current leader in fitness tracking finger devices, Samsung is preparing to compete with it with the Galaxy Ring. So far, Samsung has been fairly silent about what the Galaxy Ring will offer, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill. According to the latest rumor, reported by Korea's Chosun Biz magazine, Galaxy Ring will work with Samsung Food to suggest meal plans based on metrics provided by the tracker.

According to the magazine, the report comes from a source familiar with the development of the smart ring. Data from the Galaxy Ring will be integrated with Samsung Food and Samsung eFood Center (Korea) to provide optimized recipes based on the wearer's body mass index (BMI) and caloric intake, according to the report.

Such a feature may be even more intelligent than a personal chef because the ring knows what is going on in your body. If you are overweight based on your BMI and have already eaten a lot that day, Samsung Food might offer recipes that are lower in calories and still satisfying. If you had a light day, it might recommend a more dense meal.

Samsung Food already works with the company's smart refrigerator series, allowing users to know if they actually have the items they need to make a meal before suggesting recommendations. For users in South Korea, Samsung eFood Center can order missing items. In other parts of the world, the missing ingredients must be ordered manually, but this is still much more manageable than making the food by hand.

It should be noted that this is still a rumor at this time, and it is possible that this feature will not be included in the first generation Samsung Galaxy Ring. However, the company does offer a similar feature on some Galaxy Watches in South Korea, so it would not be outlandish to see meal recommendations appear on the Galaxy Ring. However, Samsung e-Food Center is only supported in Korea, so it may not initially leave Korea.

Even without automatic meal ordering, healthy meal recommendations based on actual data could be incredibly exciting. After all, the primary supporting app, Samsung Food, is available in 104 countries, so there should be no reason why it could not launch globally with Galaxy Ring.

Samsung has not announced an exact launch date for the Galaxy Ring, but we do know that it will appear in late 2024. We also do not know how much Samsung intends to price the Galaxy Ring, but the company must be hoping to make it competitive with the Oura Ring, which sells for $299.
