"House of Dragons" is set approximately 200 years before the main story and follows the struggle for succession of House Targaryen in its heyday.

Given that the new season will delve deeper into the history of House Targaryen and the growing feud between former associates Lenira Targaryen (Emma Darcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), the new trailer allows viewers to root for either side of the so-called "Dance of Dragons" The new trailer is a perfect example of this.

Continuing where the first season left off (the finale, "The Black Queen," aired on October 23, 2022), the "Black" trailer focuses on Rhaenyra, played by Darcy, her uncle and novel husband, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and their Dragonstone army The "green" version is a more "green" version of the film. The "green" version focuses on Alicent, played by Cook, and her son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Kearney) and his friends in King's Landing who support Viserys I's claim to the throne.

Unlike the 10-episode first season, the second season of "House of Dragons" will consist of eight episodes, but it is clear that it will be full of the fire-breathing tension, violence, and betrayal that one would expect from an HBO hit. Director Claire Kilner told The Hollywood Reporter about the shortened season. 'There are eight great episodes, and there's so much going on in every episode that it's sometimes a struggle to fit it all into an hour. [Showrunner] Ryan [Condal's] decision was to give them a good opening and a good ending, and they are packed with emotional and visually exciting events."

Prior to the trailer's release, HBO also released a series of character posters promoting the new season on March 20. In addition to Darcy, Cook, Glynn-Kearney, and Smith, Fabian Frankel (as Sir Christon Cole), Ewan Mitchell (as Prince Aemon Targaryen), Eve Best (as Princess Lenys Targaryen), and Steve Toussaint (as Sir Corliss Verarion) The returning cast also appears on the poster.
