It's the New Year, which means lots of new movies are coming to Hulu. One of our favorite streaming services, Hulu is generally better known for its TV section, but that doesn't mean it can't put its top-notch movie library to sleep.

This award-winning documentary is one that no news junkie should miss." The Fight" follows four lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union as they fight four major cases under the Trump administration. Directors Eli Despres, Josh Kriegman, and Elyse Steinberg take great care to give humanity to the team of bum lawyers working on the front lines for the ACLU.

The four cases at the core of The Fight will no doubt be familiar. A family separation lawsuit, a 17-year-old rape victim denied an abortion at a refugee resettlement facility, a presidential tweet banning transgender military service, and the addition of an immigration question to the 2020 census that could cost diverse cities crucial seats in the House. How will these important battles play out, and what can we do to change the world for the better?

Prepare to laugh and cry in this irreverent indie drama from Irish director Lenny Abrahamson ("Room," "Normal People"). Frank" is inspired by the true story of Chris Seavey, a British punk rocker who wore a giant papier-mâché head and performed as his alter ego Frank Sidebottom.

Michael Fassbender plays Frank, now the band's lead vocalist, who goes on tour with the band accompanied by John (Domhnall Gleeson), an aspiring songwriter with no sense of direction. While on tour, Frank gathers the group to record an album and take a year-long retreat. As the weeks go by, Frank drives John and his friends to the edge of insanity. ......

"The Guard" is a gem of a buddy cop film that pairs a soft-spoken Irish officer (Brendan Gleeson) with a straightforward FBI agent (Don Cheadle). From the high-octane shootouts to the reluctant friendship and respect that grows between the two polar opposites, this is a high-energy, comedic fish-out-of-water story.

Sgt. Jerry Boyle (Gleason) is a small-town cop with a temper and an indifference to getting drunk on the job, but he is kind to his ailing mother. His life takes an unfavorable turn when a local murder transforms a quiet corner of the Connemara coast into an international crime hotspot; when FBI agent Wendell Everett (Cheadle) is assigned to the case, sparks fly, but he is forced to cooperate to get to the bottom of it The two are forced to cooperate in order to get to the bottom of the case.

In "Grandma," acclaimed actress and comedian Lily Tomlin plays Elle, a foul-mouthed, misanthropic poet. But her grief takes a turn when her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner) shows up pregnant and so destitute that she doesn't even have the money to get an abortion scheduled for eight hours later.

The reasons why Sage has no contact with Elle's estranged biological mother and why Elle has only a few dollars in her possession at that point are both best left to be seen as they unfold rather than explained. All that is required is that the two of them race across Los Angeles in a vintage Dodge in a mad race to find the money by any means necessary. It's a heartwarming family comedy at first, but devastatingly moving by the end.

The torment of the underclass depicted in "Parasite" is portrayed from a different angle in Japanese writer/director Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Shoplifter Family." In this film, the Shibata family lives in poverty, barely scraping by. Father Osamu (Lily Franky) and son Shota (Jôhiro Hironori), who have lost their jobs due to injury, regularly resort to shoplifting in order to survive, and develop a system that uses hand signals to convey their marks.

The Shibatas decide to take in Yuri (Miyu Sasaki), whom they find to be showing signs of abuse despite her meager means. But as the girl begins to shoplift with the family, they discover that she is the missing child at the center of a much larger conspiracy. More meditative than "Parasite," "Shoplifting Family" was praised for its nuance and subtlety.

Why choose one when you can enjoy both Halloween and Christmas? The Nightmare Before Christmas is another masterpiece from Henry Selick, creative director of "Coraline" and "James and the Giant Peach."

This stop-motion animated film centers on Jack Skellington (Danny Elfman), the king of pumpkins. He discovers a whole new world when he stumbles upon a portal to a holiday far removed from his Halloween-centric home. Fascinated by Christmas Town, he returns home eager to bring the holidays under his control. However, his plan to kidnap Santa Claus and bring the Christmas spirit to Halloween Town goes awry when the villainous Bug Bag, Oogie Boogie, begins to meddle. Elfman (of Oingo Boingo fame) voiced the characters in the film, as well as the haunting music for this classic musical.

Fans of last year's "Oppenheimer" need to add "The Imitation Game" to their viewing list. Like Christopher Nolan's biopic, the film focuses on a group of very smart people tackling a complex problem that must be solved in a race against time during World War II.

Mathematician Alan Turning (Benedict Cumberbatch) is the nucleus of the story this time around, and while the film touches on the tragic circumstances of his later years, the bulk of the running time is devoted to his work trying to decipher Enigma, the cryptograph used by the Germans to send encrypted messages. Of course, The Imitation Game takes a lot of liberties when it comes to historical accuracy. But if you are willing to suspend your disbelief a bit, it is a very compelling drama about the father of the modern computer.
