"American Fiction" has been receiving a barrage of accolades since its arrival on the film awards circuit. After being named one of the American Film Institute's Top 10 Films of 2023, the film has garnered multiple Critics' Choice Award and Golden Globe nominations, including Best Musical or Comedy Film. All of these accolades indicate that the film is a worthy contender for one of the highest honors, the Academy Awards.

But if you haven't yet made it to your local movie theater to see "American Fiction," you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Right now, the only way to see the film is to buy a ticket at the cinema, but it is well worth the trip.

Based on Percival Everett's 2001 novel Erasure, this comedy-drama stars novelist Thelonious "Monk" Ellison (Jeffrey Wright). As a sort of joke, he decides to write a book using similar clichés to prove his point. As of now, I don't know when I will be able to watch this movie from the comfort of my living room at home. However, while there is no official date yet for when "American Fiction" will make its streaming debut, at least we know where it will be distributed. Read on for our thoughts on when "American Fiction" will be available for streaming.

Now it's time for the good news and the bad news.

First, the good news! American Fiction will be released on February 6 via a pay-per-view video-on-demand service. That means those who have yet to see this blockbuster, Oscar-nominated film in theaters can wait to watch it at home.

Now for the bad news. Unfortunately, the film will not be available on Prime Video. Instead, "American Fiction" will be released on March 8 on MGM Plus. Since Amazon owns the rights to the film, it may eventually be distributed on Prime Video, but for the time being it will be distributed on Amazon's other streaming services.

This is unfortunate for those who wanted to see the film on one of the best streaming services; many people have Prime Video thanks to its inclusion in Amazon Prime subscriptions, but MGM Plus is a niche service. At the moment, James Bond movies are its biggest selling point, and many of those can still be found elsewhere.

Renting this movie from a PVOD service may ultimately be a better move for most people than getting an MGM Plus subscription. However, MGM Plus has a one-week free trial, so you can sign up, watch "American Fiction," and then cancel.
