Netflix is shying away from Apple Vision Pro for now.

Apple has made a big announcement about apps that will be compatible with the Apple Vision Pro, but there is one service that will likely be conspicuously absent when the headset finally arrives: Netflix has previously confirmed that it will not have a native Apple Vision Pro app at launch. It confirmed that it would not, and now it appears that the streamer's iPad app will not be supported either.

The idea behind the Apple Vision Pro is that the headset is supposed to be able to run iPad apps as well as native apps built for VisionOS. That way, early adopters can choose from a vast software library, regardless of how much work the app developer has accomplished.

Netflix has confirmed to Bloomberg that it does not support either option. Instead, users who attempt to use Netflix's iPad app on the Vision Pro will be prompted to watch on Netflix.com; they can watch Netflix in the Vision Pro's web browser, but that's it.

Netflix has not revealed why it took this approach with respect to the Vision Pro headset; the Vision Pro is a rather niche item that has not yet been tested, and the company is still unsure how widespread it will become, There is an argument that the company may not want to spend the effort in organizing compatible apps. [It is also worth noting that Apple TV Plus is one of Netflix's competitors, proving that Netflix is willing to work against the will of its users if it has to suffer its competitors in some way. According to "Kingpin" actor Vincent D'Onofrio, this was the case when Disney Plus came along and canceled its own Marvel shows (such as "Daredevil") This would not be the first time Netflix has tangled with Apple. [But that's speculation, and the real reason may be simpler: Bloomberg notes that Netflix has developed an app for the Meta Quest platform, but hasn't actually updated it in years. This suggests that Netflix is skeptical about VR in general.

Even more so given the small number of people likely to wear the Apple Vision Pro in the near future. Not only because of the price, but also because of speculation of limited supply.

Of course, Netflix may change its mind in the future. Especially given the sheer number of streaming services that will be available on Vision Pro at launch: Disney Plus, Discovery Plus, Max, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount Plus, Peacock, ESPN, MLB, And of course, Apple TV Plus.

The Apple Vision Pro will be available on February 2, with pre-orders beginning on January 19.
