The first trailer for my most anticipated Netflix movie of the year has been released.

Netflix is starting off the new year by dropping trailers for the big new movies and shows coming to the streaming service in the next few months. They have already premiered the biggest new shows of the year, and now they have released the trailer for the Netflix movie I am most excited about in 2024.

"Hitman," a new comedy written and directed by Richard Linklater, stars Glen Powell in the lead role of the moment. The popular actor also co-wrote the script with Linklater, and Netflix has stated that the film is not just a comedy, but "belongs to many genres," including "noir, screwball comedy, and thriller," and hopes it will be a multifaceted film that everyone can enjoy.

Inspired by an incredible true story, "Hitman" stars Powell as Gary Johnson, a fake hitman working secretly for the police. But this informant gets out of hand when he meets a mysterious new client, Madison (Adria Arjona), and sparks instantly fly between the two, but their budding romance is threatened by mass deception as both sides keep their secrets.

As Gary and Madison grow closer, the fake contract killer begins to break all his carefully maintained rules. In the process, he must avoid revealing his true identity.

My excitement for "Hitman" stems primarily from its talent. Richard Linklater has made some of my favorite films, including the "Before" trilogy, "Boyhood. I also like Powell's engaging performances in Top Gun, Maverick, and Everybody Wants Sam: Maverick, Everybody Wants Sam! (also directed by Linklater), and "Anyone But You" also enjoyed Powell's charming performance.

Needless to say, we can't wait for the film's summer debut on Netflix, and we have no doubt that it will be a quality production. The Hitman premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last September to very positive reviews. Critics praised Powell's strong performance and his chemistry with Arjona.

Between the talented crew, the high critical acclaim after its festival debut, and the first teaser trailer introducing a fast-paced comedy thriller that is equal parts funny and thrilling, it is hard not to be excited about this next Netflix film.

Unfortunately, "Hitman" doesn't arrive on Netflix until June 7. However, when you can see it for yourself, it will be a name on Netflix's list of best movies. In the meantime, if you're looking for something you can stream right now, here's a roundup of the best movies and shows to watch on Netflix this week.
