The nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards have been announced, and while there were certainly a few omissions, the main takeaway was not a surprise. Oppenheimer dominated this year's past awards, including the 2024 Golden Globes. Therefore, it was no surprise that the film was nominated for 13 Academy Awards. Christopher Nolan's biopic about the father of the atomic bomb is favored to win Best Picture and Best Director, and a complete sweep is not out of the question.

However, despite the predictably overwhelming strength of "Oppenheimer," there was another serious omission. Although "Barbie" was nominated for Best Picture, Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie missed out on Best Director and Best Actress, respectively.
