5 Max's mini-series you won't want to miss this weekend

Max is one of the best streaming services out there, and naturally, they have some great mini-series that you can watch in one sitting over the weekend.

Those who know me know that I love a good miniseries (also known as a limited series), whether it's on Hulu or Apple TV Plus, there's something about a story that you can finish in one sitting and still have more depth than you'd get from a movie There's just something about a story that's more profound than what you'd see in a movie. When done properly, it is truly art.

In fact, a great mini-series, Masters of the Air, just started this week. If you're interested, read my review of the first two episodes.

But thankfully, Max has an HBO content library full of HBO miniseries. Some of them are some of the best limited series ever. There are too many to list in this article. So even if you didn't scroll through this article to see "Chernobyl," I did, and it's great. I just didn't have the space for it.

So, if you're looking for an engaging story to watch in one sitting, here are Max's top five miniseries to binge watch this weekend.

The spiritual successor to THE WIRE, and in the completely objective opinion of this Baltimore native, the best show of all time, this six-part miniseries may be the best limited series of all time. We Own This City is based on the true story of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Unit, one of the most corrupt police forces in U.S. history.

Whether or not this is the best miniseries ever made, it is certainly one of the best performances to grace the television screen. John Bernthal's performance as Wayne Jenkins, one of the eight Special Task Force members convicted on corruption charges, is outstanding. The fact that the film was not even nominated for an award, let alone win an award, is vicious, and if you watch it, you will understand why.

If you are a fan of "Band of Brothers" or plan to watch the new Apple TV Plus limited series "Masters of the Air," this Max miniseries is a must-see. A sister show to both shows, "The Pacific" focuses on the story of the U.S. Marines in the Pacific theater of World War II. The show features a large ensemble cast, with Rami Malek starring as Private Meriel "Snafu" Shelton and John Bernal as Sergeant Manuel "Manny" Rodriguez.

The star power in this 2010 miniseries is not as strong or as good as its European Theater predecessor. But that would be like saying one Van Gogh is slightly less good than another. Either way, you are looking at breathtaking art.

Starring Kate Winslet, who displays a phenomenal Delaware County accent, fans of the BBC series "Broadchurch" will immediately recognize "The Easttown Horse". Winslet plays Mare Sheehan, a local detective assigned to investigate the murder of her teenage mother, who is battling her own demons. One of those demons. The unsolved murder of a young girl. For this cold case, Mare's boss (John Douglas Thompson) brings in County Detective Colin Zabel (Evan Peters), who is famous for having recently solved a cold case nearby.

Winslet and Peters' performances and their chemistry are excellent. Both won Primetime Emmys, as did Julianne Nicholson for her portrayal of Mair's friend Lori. Jean Smart was also nominated for her role as Maire's mother Helen.

As you can already tell, crime dramas are a perfect genre for a miniseries. And this true-crime drama from HBO and Sky is definitely a perfect fit for a limited series. Olivia Colman and David Soris play Susan and Christopher Edwards, who allegedly killed Susan's parents William and Patricia Witchery in 1998."

Even though director Will Sharp needed only four episodes to tell this story based on a true story, he loaded it with twists and turns. There is murder, intrigue, an unlikely friendship with French actor Gerard Depardieu, and fantastic scenes that feel right at home on the big screen. Plus, when you're done watching this film, you can watch another miniseries.

Episode 4 Genre Crime Drama Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98 Watch on Max

This Max miniseries is actually an adaptation of the 2008 BBC crime drama miniseries "Criminal Justice. "In "The Night Of," Riz Ahmed is accused of murdering a woman on New York City's Upper West Side He plays Nasir "Naz" Khan, a Pakistani-American college student who is accused of murdering a woman on New York's Upper West Side. The only problem. He doesn't remember anything about the night of the murder.
